New car insurance with open claim?

Hi

I am about to renew my car insurance and have an open claim. It is literally a case of waiting for a cheque from the other side as liability has been admitted.

I will have 4 years no claims once this cheque is received, but my insurance providor have no urgency.

Will another insurer insure me with 4 years no claims with this open claim?

Thanks

  • They will insure you but will not honour the NCB until the claim has been fully settled.

What they may do is accept a letter from previous insurer confirming liability has been admitted and offer you some sort of intermiediate discount.

You need to get a (written if possible) agreement from any new insurer that once your outstanding claim is concluded should this result in your NCD being reinstated that the new insurer will amend your premium to reflect the NCD from inception and refund you the diffrence.
