Barclaycard Acceptance then cancellation

in Credit cards
Hi everyone. I applied for a Barclaycard Gold credit card and balance transfer early this week, and I received an email on Wednesday telling me that I'd been accepted, and that the card was being posted to me.
Today, I received the card, and 2 other letters from the fraud department, telling me that the account has been closed by them, and not giving me any information as to why the account was closed. When I called them, they just said that because of the terms and conditions, they have withdrawn the credit agreement.
I've just checked my credit report, and everything appears to be in order, and shows the searches done by Barclaycard on Monday, and nothing further after that.
Does anyone have a clue as to why they would do this? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Thank you Stephane, it seems like a really rubbish thing for them to do. Why not just reject the application! Pah.HSBC Credit Card £608.69, HSBC Overdraft: £4123.67, HSBC Loan: £8,270.69
