Do british gas credit search new customers ?

Unless you are on a ppm then BG will credit check, I think all suppliers will do this.

I was credit checked when getting the PPMs taken out. They asked me permission to do so and did it immediately while I was on the phone. I've never been asked otherwise so I always presumed it wasn't done. So are you guys saying that you're credit checked all the time without being told?

The checks are done when you ask for credit:
Asking for a pp meter to be swapped for a quarterly one.
Asking for a new contract when you already have a quarterly meter.

They have to ask your permission each time.

We have just gone over to BG for our electric, PPM, and as far as we were aware we weren't credit checked, at least we weren't made aware at the time, maybe it was because we are topping up our key from home, online, using their USB devise, will certainly be a comfort if we get snow like the last couple of years, couldn't get out to top up our key, was a worry for sure, but not any more

As you have a PPM you were not requesting credit, therefore no credit check.
