    Hello All

Cant find any threads on this one.

I just cooked a gammon in my new SC. I now have stock left over.

    1. Can i freeze the stock?
    2. Can i use the stock ( its not too salty) in other recipes? and if so
    which recipes do you recommend?

    Cheers

    Trin

I asked the same question a few months ago (I can't remember where, unfortunately, or I'd link to it :o), so I know the answers are:

    1) Yes, you can freeze it - stock freezes very well.

    2) You can use gammon stock for all sorts of things but imo it goes best with pulses - I've made a couple of nice batches of lentil soup with ham stock, and also used some in a bean stew, which was also very tasty.

    HTH. :)

    Hi Trinny,

yes the stock can be frozen, my fave recipe for using it is lentil & bacon soup. Makes it really rich and nice.

    Hi Trtinny,

Gammon stock freezes well. I use it mainly for making lentil soup. There's an earlier thread that should help with other uses:

    Gammon stock

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

Sorry to be thick but a lot of posts suggest adding a whole potato to absorb the salt when making soup from gammon stock...do you throw the potato out, or leave it in the soup? :o(Imagining a very salty potato...)
    Ta:)

Not thick at all EM - I would throw it out - as it's used purely to take the excess salt away :) x
