hi

My 8yr old son and I are both Happy Potter mad! would love to take him to the premiere in London even though it will be manic and ive never done anything like this before!

Anyone ever been to any premieres - just standing in the crowd? Is it worth it - just for the buzz?

Any experiences welcome - been googling like mad all nite...! thanks

  • The buzz is pretty great, but at the last premier the rain was horrendous!. I remember being squashed against a barrier for hours and as the rain poured down, I started sinking into the mud between the flooring and the barrier ... Good times :-)

As we were in the enclosure of the square by 9ish in the morning, I don't know how it was organised for those who came later in the day, although it was very busy when we came out. The cast and guests were very friendly (and some were particularly friendly and determined to see as many people as possible despite the weather). The photo's in the media were pretty reflective of how wet it was.

If you get in the enclosure, the security were pretty fair about letting people out for toilet / refreshments, but it was pretty tight and uncomfortable in our section. I go with a group as its a lot of fun with friends, and the fandom isn't short on communities who will probably be making their presence known.

In all honesty, there will be people camping out and there are a lot of regulars who seem really experienced. I'm in two minds about camping but i'm planning to go for the buzz, even if I just get there in the morning. Very entertaining though, in the morning with the set up, and then in the afternoon with the press doing their links etc. We had lots of overseas reporters asking us to be enthusiastic :-)

It might be worthwhile going to this one (if money, travel etc. allows) for the day to get a feel for it with relatively low expectations, and then if it seems like fun, make plans for the final premier next July (if the release schedule remains unchanged). This might also allow for time to get to know others who want to attend. It is chaotic so you'll probably want to consider how your son handles such environments.

Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy part 1 when its released!

    Take care
    J
