100 mile round trip! Gosh where are you getting married?
Our venue is in Dorking, surrey - about 30-40 minute drive from home.

We're getting married in Northamptonshire, near where my parents live and I grew up, but OH and I live in Nottingham. It's a fairly straight forward drive, straight down M1 but it's going to start getting a bit more frequent over the next few weeks!

On the plus side, had a good weddingy day today! Picked up my dress from the shop and took it to the seamstress so she can do the bits I want doing. Then we went to an open evening at our venue. It was great seeing it in the dark, as in January we'll only get a couple of hours of daylight, but it looks fantastic at night! There's fairy lights absolutely everywhere, and they have these amazing tall patio heaters with big flames inside! It's going to be fab! :D

Had a good day today! OH is on his stag do so I am being productive!

My dress came into the shop Thursday so I went for my first fitting today. Still LOVE the dress which is a relief and getting me excited again! Chose my tiara (a side band with sparkles and pearly beads) which is now on order, and looked at bolero/ shrug for the day. I might be able to hire one from the shop - it's either that or this one from Monsoon.

Neither will give much warmth but will help me feel a little less 'exposed' in my gown!

Also went to jewellers and put in my engagement ring for resizing (going down a few sizes).

Out tonight with girls from work which should be fun! Hope all going well!

My OH is having his stag today as well! They went paintballing this morning, and although we woke up to a fall of snow, they went! He rang me a while ago to let me know they were on their way home and apparently they were having a great time until one of his mates tripped on something while running and has broken his ankle! So I think OH Is feeling a bit bad about it. I assume the rest of the stag is still on though... He's on his way home to shower and change and then they're off into town to go to the Comedy Club and all the rest!

I picked up our wedding rings today, and paid off the final balance. I need to get my engagement ring and wedding ring resized though as I have also lost weight! Not sure how many sizes I'll need to go down though but I think it might be a few. Am also not too happy with my wedding ring. I've had it made, as my engagement ring is an unusual shape, so had a wishbone ring made. Got it for a good price though, it was only £280 as opposed to the £900 another jewellers quoted. Unfortunately, the profile of the ring doesn't really match my engagement ring. The edges of the wedding ring are more square, engagement ring is rounder, so am a bit disappointed. I think they look odd together. Am going to ask OH's opinion when he gets home and will be going back to the shop to see what they suggest I think.

Hope you have a good night out! :D

just booked dance lessons! OH has been pushing for them for a while (I am a more confident dancer than he is) so we're going for it and our first lesson is saturday. The lesson is in the next town from us in the afternoon, so we should get there even if this weather stays the same!
We had our meeting with the hotel wedding planner on Monday and that went well - was able to make lots of decisions and made a list of all the outstanding things to do. Have found out that our chair cover company (part of the hotel's package) also hires cake stands, so am going to book that and we'll have Mum's fruit cake on the top tier and cupcakes on the lower tiers.
did you make a decision re your wedding ring? Mine is made and sitting in the jewellers' safe, OH has ordered his through a mail order company (smooch) and the first one that came was wrong, so we're waiting on the replacement.
hope you are having a good week! We are very snowy here in Surrey but I am walking to work in my wellies!

Ooooh dancing lessons, how fab! I looked into lessons but we can't really fit it into the budget! I have said to OH though that I want to at least practice dancing to our song over the next 6 weeks (eeeeek 6 weeks to go!!!) so that I feel more comfortable doing it!

I took my wedding ring back to the shop yesterday and also left my engagement ring. I was really worried that they would turn around and say I would have to have a new ring made or something but the guy was great, and said it wouldn't be a problem, which is brilliant! They are resizing both of them down a size and also reshaping the wedding ring to make it more rounded. It will only take a week so will pick it up next weekend, which is good. Feels very odd not wearing my engagement ring again though, hopefully this will now be the last time I am without it!

We had a really good meeting at our venue yesterday, we went through the whole day in detail, which has really helped. It's made us realise that we are fairly well organised but there's a few bits that we still need to sort, and probably need to sort fairly quickly! We're now finalising the music for during the ceremony which will probably be:

My entrance - Portugese Love Theme from Love Actually (I played it for my mum yesterday as although she's seen the film a million times she couldn't remember the piece of music and she nearly started crying!)
Signing register - Hoppipolla ~ Sigur Ros, Better Together ~ Jack Johnson and we'll probably pick one or two more, just in case the photos go on for a bit...
    Exit - Everything ~Michael Buble.

OH has now been tasked with putting together a playlist for background music for during the meal, and he also needs to decide who he wants as his witness.

This weekend we've got a meeting with our florist and also I've got my hair trial on Saturday afternoon, so really looking forward to that! I've got really fine hair which cannot hold a curl so I'm quite interested to see what my hairdresser will be able to do with it! I think I'm going to go for a low side bun, and we've already discussed the possibility of hair extensions, or at least some sort of artificial assistance to give me a bit more volume!

Well done on sorting your cake stand! Hope it can hold up under the weight of your mum's fruit cake!

We've had a fair amount of snow here but certainly not as much as other areas of the country. Our road gets a bit slippy as it is a long cul-de-sac so no through-traffivc keeping it clear but we can still get to work, so far anyway!

Yay another January bride!! I was starting to think fran-o and myself were the only ones!!

Congratulations Nickie, not long to go now at all!

Yeah, we've still got a handful of guests (daytime ones too!) who haven't rsvp'd and it's driving me crazy! I've done the table plan based on them coming, as I assume they will be but it'd be really nice for them to tell us either way! And am totally with you on the money thing, it's getting to the stage where balances are becoming due and money needs to be paid out... Maybe getting married near Christmas wasn't such a good idea after all?!?!

  • Tell me about it, im doing all the over time going to have all the extras that we'd really like. The table plan was sorted but we have heard the terrible news that OH's cousin has cancer and will be starting 9 weeks of chemo in a fortnights time so they may not come but wont know til nearer the time so no idea what to do about the table plan as im having it made might have to save my money and make it myself.

My sons suit arrived today and its far to big so has to go back and ive developed a coldsore today - nice!!

Yeah a wedding and christmas a few weeks apart may have been a silly idea. lol

Welcome Nickie! You are part of our elite wedding club!! I am getting married just down the road from you in Dorking (on 15th).
Sorry to hear about your OH's cousin, I would add them to the table plan and hope for the best - people seem to be have good days and bad days on chemo and perhaps once treatment has started they (and you) will have a clearer picture of how its going to be in January. Best wishes to you and your family.

Two more wedding jobs tonight - Just been on Green and Blacks website and ordered 100 mini chocolate bars for wedding favours. And nagged OH about paying off credit card (we are putting nearly everything on c card for the airmiles, but means we have to be organised to keep clearing it for the next purchase)

Annabella - My ceremony music is - 'Hoppipolla' Sigur Ros (entrance) 'One Day Like This' Elbow (register) 'Heroes' David Bowie (ending)
