Can I swap a 2.5 engine for a 1.9?

Hi.

I have a recovery truck which is a citroen c25 with a really good tilt and slide conversion, to be honest I only bought it for the back as it's an L reg but I've had it nearly a year now with no problems, it just keeps going!
I recently bought another c25 which I was planning on taking the doors off for mine and renewing the drivers seat as mine is ripped then breaking the rest for spares. However I assumed it would be a non runner as it had been parked for 3 years but to my surprise it started pretty much straight away with a new battery and drives fine.

It is also a L reg but only a 1.9 version.

I am just wondering whether I could keep the engine and box out of this one, and keep it as a spare should mine ever fail. Or would it not fit/work.

Also with the loss in ngine size would it struggle to pull the truck when loaded.

Thanks for any suggestions.

take what good off the 1.9 sell the engine and box on e-bay, weigh in the cab, dont touch what isnt broken!! if the 2.5 runs starts pulls and your happy dont make any changes to what works for you. it would probably fit if you include the wiring loom and ecu and use the engine mountains off it exhaust possibly too.

That was the plan mate, I wasnt intending taking a perfectly good engine out of my truck and replacing it with the lesser powered one, merely intended keeping one as a spare incase mine ever died to reduce downtime. Just wanted to know whether the 2 would be compatible

    I'd keep the engine.
The C25 is getting rare, even though the 2.5 will go on forever usually.
The 1.9 is underpowered, but if you don't want to get over 60mph it'll be ok.
No ecu, only electronics on it is the glow plug timer and the reversing light switch in the gearbox.
(and I think the glowplug timer is out of production now as well)
Headlights are worth keeping now as well.

    Cheers.

TBH I only bought it for the doors and driver seat but if I can keep the engine and box and they'll fly in mine then Im chuffed to bits with that. The headlights are going on ebay, theyre selling all the time at over £100 a pair. The van only stands me £250 plus I'll get a few quid weigh in:D

Most of the bits will go well on ebay.
They were a popular camper conversion, there's a lot still about, but spares are getting very rare.
