Automatic Renewal on my bike insurance which

Hi,

I would really appreciate some advice on my insurance situation, just that i have not dealt with anything like this before, it is quite complicated so i will try to explain it the best i can.

I took out insurance on my 125cc motorcycle in September last year paying monthly until september 2010.

due to me being 17 at the time of taking the insurance out, i had to have the direct debit paid out of my exboyfriends account, which i then just gave him the money to pay into his bank account.

in august 2010 my motorbike was stolen and therefore i rang the insurance and they dealt with the insurance claim accordingly, where i send all of my motorbike documents and keys into them, they sent me the money and the man who dealt with my claim on the phone assured me that everything was sorted, the money was going to be paid into my bank account (which it did) and that there where no further worries.

my ex-boyfriend then told me in mid september a payment had been taken out, so he canclled to direct debit that he had revived a letter about renewing the insurance policy but he didn't explain that if i didn't act then the policy would automatically renew. i didn't recive any letters therefore i thought nothing of it.

i understand that this is partly my fault by not ringing up to ensure that the policy had carried on for a further year but me being naive just assumed that the insurance company knew that my bike had been stolen and therefore would not carry on insuring the bike which they technically own.

i have had several phone calls in the past couple of weeks where the company (mce insurance) say that they need proof of the vehicle been stolen as mce insurance which is apparantly a broker.

two of the ladies on the phone said that they would contact the previous insurers for me to verify that i no longer own the veihcle and have not done so, according to the man i spoke to today. i yesterday recived a letter saying that i owe them the full £503 and that the insurance is no longer valid.

but my issue is how can they charge me to insure a motorcycle which i don't have?

and how can they charge me for an insurance policy on a veicle which i don't own?

was i in the wrong and i owe them this money? or are they been unreasonable?

thank you for taking your time to read this and i again will appreciate any help!!!

please ask any questions if it is unclear

They cant. The insurance company paid out and the policy would have ended at that point unless you transferred it to a new vehicle.

If the insurance company are not expecting a premium then the broker shouldnt be either. So, it looks like something somewhere is not right.

There was no insurance to begin with if there was a total loss claim in the previous policy year and a pay out was made.
