You'd think so but some people try to play the system at every stage.

    I'm just a cynic though.

That's a frightening level of cynisim, if you think people will throw away their only source of income in order to avoid a single appointment. That makes not sense.

I was surprised to get a letter with an appointment date because for the last 3 medicals I have had ATOS have always rang me to arrange a convenient date for the medical. I am in the house 90% of the time and there hasn't been any telephone calls from them.

    Regards
    Maureen
  • Amber - post not being sent by Atos is not a regular problem. When there are problems Benefit centres are made aware so that they can take it into account in situations like the O/Ps.

Nasa - some of those people who claim not to have received a letter will be telling the truth!
  • Mo phone your Benefit delivery centre on Monday. They are able to check if Atos tried phoning you to arrange an appointment. They should also be able to see when the appointment letter was sent in the post to you.

    Thanks. I will do that.
  • Just sounds like another sneaky way of stopping peoples benefit.

If they will give a person with only one arm no points I wouldn't put anything past them.

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.

They arent always aware that what they are doing will stop their benefit, even if they have been told, some people really are stupid.

I used to work in the equivalent of a JCP office, I would of handed a claimant a form explaining that they were going to receive their next payment before they signed on, but that they still needed to sign on, I would have explained this to them verbally too, of course they then attended the office four weeks down the line saying they didnt know they still had to sign-on.

Its really baffling what some people do - I cant explain their actions - they are advised of what it means.

    Just to update you.

Today I received a letter saying they had looked at their decision again and have decided to give me my Incapacity Benefit back from the 15th October (thats the date they stopped it from). I haven't had a new date for my medical as yet.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Unfortunatley NASA is right in many of the cases.
From experience of actually speaking to the claimants I found the main reason for non attendance was that they thought things would be swept under the carpet if they ignored the letter and that their benefit would continue as normal
