Zenith Commercial?

Options
Just wondering if anyone has heard of the commercial branch of Zenith Staybrite? I had a couple of quotations for double glazing from local companies and then thought I'd give one of the big names a go (just to see how much more they were).

After a 2 and a half hour presentation (which I was expecting), I was given the usual thing of being 4 times as expensive and then having the price brought down using 'special discounts' to twice as much as the local companies.

The next day I received a phone call from the commercial branch of the company saying that they were doing work in the area and they were able to do some residential work 'to fill the work schedule'. He also said he would be able to do a more competitive quote than the residential arm of the business (indicating that it would be more in line with the quotes from local businesses - not that I told him what my quotes were, he mentioned a few figures...).

He had all my details (ie, he didn't sound like he was scamming me for personal information) but it just sounds a bit dodgy.

Has anyone heard of this? I tried Googling it but did not come up with anything... Should I allow him to come round and quote, or run away as fast as I can?!

Any information would be gratefully received!

Thanks

  • they tried this with me. they also promised to send the commercial arms sales guy around to talk things through. i thought why not give them a go. The day came, the time came and went. when i called them to find out what was happening the guy said "oh he will be there soon. sorry hes in delays"

An hour later i called, and their response was, despite them having details of the appointment when i called the first time, "oh he's not coming out. what was it all about?......Oh yes, we can;t beat the residential price so no point anyone coming out"

My advice, avoid them like the plague

they tried it on with me yrs ago.
told me they were fitting a large council contract in the local area and could give me a special deal. told em to go away.
so i called the council out of interest, and guess what? they had no contract with the council at all.

(the chap even told me, off the record, that theres no way they would employ a company like zenith).

these sales people when pricing are trained to add in all sorts, they charge for walking distance from the van to the back garden, 10 meters £250 20 meters £400, there sales people are commision only and they sell every job as a one off show site in the area offering a huge discount of the original price, its just a blag yet loads of people believe it, and don`t forget the famous could you afford just £10/£12/£14 a week sales pitch if you take out finance for the next 20 years, your getting a great deal(not)

Oh no, not the old "got a big order going in and if you order now we can do you a great discount" line. They must think people are stupid. One guy who quoted me told me the big order has already gone through but would phone his boss to check. He then pretended to call his boss on his phone (it was so obvious he was faking it) who inevitably said the order hadn't gone in yet, so if I signed up straight away I could get the special price. I told him I never sign up straight away without a few days to mull things over and I wasn't about to do so now. He then got !!!!ed off about him being there until 9pm.

So the guy came round this morning and offered a price which is 6% lower than the other quotes I got from local companies (going through their Lifestyle finance plan and making sure you pay it off just after the minimum 8 month period so the least interest is paid) ...

It boils down to whether the quality of Zenith windows and their fitting is equal to that of the local companies since it's not looking like I will get a quote for much less than that (without reducing the quality significantly...)

The chap they sent this time gave a better impression of the company (more professional, answered my questions intelligently) and so I'm fairly sure they will be my choice.

Well, that's my call to make...

All I can say is that the quality of the window looks comparable to those of the competition. The majority of complaints I have read seem to stem from pushy sales people, which I experience all the time getting quotes for various work on my house, and I am not the type of person to be cajoled into a quote if I do not feel comfortable with it.

As it is, I have decided to cancel my order with them since I realised that they had not included dummy vents and sashes which I suspect will push the price up above the other quotes anyway. If I am then targeted with follow-up calls, I know where the disconnect button is on my phone...
  • So I had a Zenith quote for my flat. I need 3 double windows and 2 singles and a new front door. Quote came to £12,000. I laughed. Then it went down to £8,000 if I put a board up outside my flat. I still laughed. He then said he would do me a fantastic deal of £4400. Didnt sound too fantastic. I said I'll let you know and he said if I dont sign up straight away I'll lose the discounted price and have to pay the £12000. I didnt call him.
Two days later I get a call from their head office. I actually think it was just the Watford branch pretending. He said that the Watford branch are being watched as there has been complaints and went through my quote. He said he he didnt know why they quoted me £12000 and under Zenith commercial they could do it for under £4000. I have tried to look up Zenith Commercial but cant. He called back today to confirm my appointment. I said you have my measurements and just quote me what it will be. I really didnt want another salesman coming round to remeasure. He quoted me £3300. I said no I think I will leave it. He swore at me and hung up.
    Nice company.
  • I would not recommend Zenith Staybrite even for a quote.

We got a quote about 6 weeks ago and are now plagued by phone calls.
They ring just about every day - 9 calls in one day was the most !
One time they rang 5 times with 15 minutes (we didn't answer).

They have also passed on (maybe sold) our details to other companies. The reason I could tell is that Zenith got my name wrong and I have had calls from the other double glazing companies asking for Mr 'wrong name'

Of course I asked them to take me off their phone list. Generally they hang up, once they said they have no list.

The best one was when they said they will not take me off their list. I asked if they will ring for ever until I buy Zenith windows - "Yes" they said !

In the last week the local Zenith branch have started calling - again 3 or 4 times a day. Haven't been around to take the call yet but I can't see that these calls are going to stop any time soon
