Hiya, A little background. For the last couple of years i've lived in various house shares etc so left my cat at my mums to be looked after.
I've moved back to my home town, to my dad's house to be precise as he has enough room for me and the OH.
Anyway, I got a call from my mum today saying that my cat needs far more attention than she and my step father can provide and they also have another cat living there, so after asking my dad I went and collected her about an hour ago.
I've opened up a couple of rooms for her to explore, the reasons for this is that my dads place is about 3 times as big as my mums and I don't want to just release her into the full house and risk her hiding for a few hours till she decides she's hungry.
Have put food out for her, and water, she's had a bit of food and also sorted out a litter tray. I'm sat in one of the rooms so she knows that I am here.
All I want to know, is am I doing the right thing for her? I know not to let her out for about a week or so.
Tomorrow, I am going to go out and buy a bed and some toys but am under no illusion that she will probably sleep with me and the OH in a few days lol.
Thanks

If it is going to make for a better home situation for her and it is long term then yes, you are doing the right thing for her.
On the letting her out side, 1 week is not enough, particularly if you live close to her previous home Ideally you'd be keeping her in for 4-6 weeks but some cats start trying to scratch their way through doors well before that! Leave it as long as you can and then start off with supervised garden visits.
I'm sure she'll come round quickly, it will al just be a bit scary and new for her at the moment.0 -
She's bold as brass till I leave the room to go to the kitchen or whatever, then she hides behind one of the chairs till I come back in room and start talking to her.
I'm about 1mile from where she lived previously and she's been looking outside already.
I just need to try and teach her not to go visiting next door otherwise Bradley the dog might try and play.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Only let her out when you're there at first. And only on an empty stomach, as a hungry cat tends to remember where she lives more than a well-fed one.
She'll be fine with you.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
