Empty Pringles tubes - gift ideas please!

I have a couple of empty pringles tubes with lids, which the moneysaving side of me is loathed to throw out. With Christmas coming up, it got me thinking of how i could incorporate them into gifts. Obviously i could jazz them up a bit with xmas wrapping paper etc, but then what??? I don't want to fill them with sweets or chocolate coz we are all trying to lose a bit of weight. So.....over to you lovely OSers to come up with ideas.....

You could use it to put a home made gift in like bath bombs, air freshners, lavender bags.

You could knitt or sew something (like an apron, gloves, scarf etc...) and roll it up and put it in the tube.

Turn it into a moneybox for children (cover it with paper, stickers etc...)

You could fill it will freebies and samples of things so your girly friends can have a pamering session on you!

You could fill it with "promises" - Like "i promise to bake you a cake" or "i promise to clean your house" "do your laundry" "babysitting" etc...

hope those are some ideas that you can use. looking forward to see what everyone else suggests.

  • how about covering in paper and painting so it ends up red and white vertical stripes down the tube.
then fill it with flavoured pre-popped popcorn, like dusted with cinnamon, hot chocolate powder - I'm sure there are lots of other things too.
Add a gift label in the shape of a cinema stub. (you could even add a film rental voucher free for clicks at ipoints - I am using these inside decorated baby milk cans in a similar idea)

just a thought on that, the popcorn may go a bit hard and end up tasting like pringles! may be an idea to stick one of those microwave bags in there instead or fill with the popping corn which is very cheap to buy.

We covered one with a mixture of pictures and then covered those with clear sticky backed plastic, filled it with dried beans and made sure the lid was very tightly secured....hey presto one rainstick for a very small person. I think it could still be lurking somewhere in his room albeit sadly neglected these days!!

  • Our local freecycle group recently had a request for these from someone who wanted to fill them with homebaked cookies as Christmas presents- Yum!

What about going to a local street market and if it's for a chap filling it with socks or lots of tightly rolled boxers .If its for a lady then lots of pairs of knickers & tights, things that us ladies use all of the time .A market stall could fill a pringles box quite cheaply .Then cover with red crepe paper and tie either end like a huge christmas cracker hey presto a pressie for around a fiver

smaller-sized bathbombs would fit perfectly in pringles tubes - even better if you are making your own (I'm sure there is a recipe for them somewhere on this forum...)

How about a special one for your romantic interest, filled with suggestions for nice nights in, some very naughty, some just nice. When the mood takes you, pick one at random and do what it says on the slip.

I know someone who also has a compliments box, which she has made for herself. Basically every time anyone pays her a compliment she writes it down with the date and the person who said it, or if sent a nice email or card she keeps a copy. She rolls all the pieces of paper up and ties them with a ribbon, and if she is having a down day, picks one out at random and reads it. She says it always puts a smile back on her face. Maybe you could use one of the tubes to do something similar?
  • Thanks for all your suggestions - they've given me some great ideas. Think the one about turning it into a giant christmas cracker is excellent :T

The bath bombs sound good - will have to find the recipe on that. The cookies and popcorn look yummy, but think i'll have to give them a miss as we are all desperate to lose weight and there are already too many temptations around xmas.

Thanks aril for the rainstick idea - but don't have any children in the family to give it to - can't quite see my grandad playing with it :rotfl:

And nicki - love your idea for the boyfriend - but unfortunately i don't have a man to give it to!!

Think i'll go for socks for the men, bath bombs for the women, unless any other ideas crop up

Thank you all - i love MSE - you are all so helpful and kind :j
