Which eggs?

I always buy free-range eggs but I've noticed that quite a few people on this site don't bother(as they are more expensive). However, I don't buy organic or free-range chicken so why am I bothering to buy free-range eggs?
What do you think?

I always have this vision of happy chickens hopping around a nice big field and pecking at the ground - rather then being stacked on top of each other in a shed and pecking each other ..... but I think I might be a over-optimistic about the life of a free-range egg chicken!
No matter, I have to buy the eggs which give me a much happier mental picture....0 -
I always buy free range as otherwise the chickens lead miserable lives, and I think animal welfare is worth more than a few pennies.
They live longer than the chickens killed for food, I think, so there's more reason to buy free range eggs than free range chicken meat, although obviously if you can do both then that's best. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I have to buy free-range too. I did buy value ones once but felt so guilty everytime I used them or saw the box in the fridge. I am on a budget but just cannot bring myself to buy the "cheaper" caged ones.0

We always buy freerange too. Can't justify the extra cruelty of 'caged,' in the same way that I'll never eat veal (even though I drink milk which supports the veal industry). Call me inconsistent. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

I use free range eggs they taste far nicer than the cheaper ones.

I always buy free freerange and organic if available even though I'm on a budget too. I read somewhere that there are more nutrients in them because the chickens' diets are more varied. Not sure if this is the case but its not going to break the bank and I'm happy in my own little world because of it!0

if you doubt again, picture (or look at) a sheet of a4 paper. the size of a battery chcken's cage from which it never leaves in it's lifetime....

I always buy free range if available, but I never buy the value ones at the supermarket. The shells are so thin it's a sure sign that there is something seriously missing from their diet. Likewise I always buy organic milk because the nutritional value is far superior to ordinary milk.
However .... I will eat veal0 -
I always buy eggs that are from free range chickens, and able to run around, not caged ones. I don't buy my meat from the supermarket, from the local Q Guild butcher and I'm pretty sure the chicken is free range.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

I don't think you can beat organic eggs for taste and freshness. But I buy them for animal welfare reasons. Organic/free range chicken is more expensive than caged hens, but again, the quality is much better and I think if food tastes good, I seem to need less of it to feel satisfied. But I am not a meat eater and I know that organic chicken would be prohibitive to our budget. So I'd probably at least get the free range eggs and try to find a cheap supplier of free range chicken or simply buy it less to compensate for the price. Last option for me, but still a reasonable one I think, is to buy what you can afford free range (like eggs) and accept that one person can't change the world and carry on as you are!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
