USA and UK Mobile Calls

My parents are away for a month over Christmas. They are going on a Carribean cruise so will be using USA networks when they reach the islands. They want to keep in touch using a mobile. Does anybody have any ideas or can recommend which sim card I should get them? It will be a mix of text and phone calls. Im guessing mobile calls to UK landline will be their cheapest option but can see which is the best sim card to buy?

I bought an AT&T pay as go sim when I went earlier this month just registered and pre loaded via paypal before going.
Phone needs to be quad band to work in us,mobile was very convenient but buying phone cards and using pay phones is definitely cheaper.
Got my sim off the fleabay for about a fiver0
