Suprisingly - Things Tesco Doesn't Sell

yes you would thing that the great temple of consumerism that is Mr T's sells everything you would need to cook and create the best dishes and one trip would satisfy the greatest chef's needs.

not so.

so far i have found two things Mr T does not sell: Tahini paste for making humous and vanilla bean paste.

these are generic products not brand specific so should be available everywhere but i have had no luck tracking them down anywhere outside of waitrose.

anyone else found Mr T to be so sadly lacking. add your non-finds here!

Tescos will vary their product range from store to store. The range will depend on the variety of customers who shop there (income group, ethnic group, lifestyle of average shopper etc.) plus the size of the store.

Our Tesco is quite a small one so the product range is somewhat limited, mainly by variety of brands - three brands of baked beans instead of five, for example. They do claim to take notice of your requests if you mention something they don't stock but I would think that several people would have to request it before it goes on the shelves.

We use it regularly because it is nearby and quick to get round the shelves and out again but have to go to a larger Sainsbury's in the next town about once every three weeks to get specific items.

Something else Tescos don't is "Tesco's healthy living sausages". This is a branded item, does it still count?
The only thing that is constant is change.
  • Hey,

Does your tesco have a world foods selection raphanius? (isn't there quite a big tesco in chesterfield now - by the new football ground?). Tahini is definitely sold in at least some tescos - our tesco (extra) has it......

World food type ingredients seem a bit hit or miss though - I've had trouble getting rose syrup (different to rose water - fab stuff!), rosewater and orange flower water, and harrisa - especially (Belazu) Rose Harissa.

Oh and passion fruit pulp - the stuff you get in a tin! Having a south african OH who pines for the stuff, it is a very expensive habit to buy the fresh ones and try and get enough pulp for deserts for example.......I got it a couple of times in tesco which was fab, but now I can't get it for love or money :(

Especially annoying when it's on the tesco website but not in store - and it's out of stock online!

(and no - before anyone asks - I don't have an ethnic place by me to get this stuff - I wish I did! And I can buy online - but it's not cheap...especially if only domestic quantities, with P&P added!)

Good quality chocolate seems a rarity as well - although that's partly a UK thing - amazing seeing what relatively "low end" continental supermarkets sell compared to us! The number of other lindt and cote d'or varieties is amazing, let alone other german / austria / belgian brands (mmmmm, Zotter.....!)

Waitrose do some Valrhona (for insane prices of course!), but this is where aldi and lidl in particular are fantastic - their single origin bars are amazing and an absolute STEAL!!
