Ending my self employed HBen claim - accounts?

Hello,

I recently went self employed and applied for housing benefit. I've hardly earned any money at all. My transactions are all very small, and it would take ages to sort through them all.

I don't really have a head for finances and I haven't really got any accounts to speak of (I've got records of my income and expenditure, but I wouldn't really know how to put them all together).

As you can probably see, I'm just not cut out for self-employment.

The lady I spoke to said that the first 12 weeks were based on my estimated income, but if I sign off HBen now (4 weeks in) will they ask to see my accounts anyway?

I know I'll have to get my accounts in order eventually (in time for the tax return), but I've just got a lot on my plate right now and I could do without the hassle.

I know this post is going to attract a lot of vitriol, but I won't disagree with any of it - I'll admit that I'm not cut out for self employment, I'll admit that I'm lazy and bad at keeping track of money, I admit everything. That's why I'm trying to wash my hands of it.

I want to get off this scheme ASAP - I don't want to waste another week or two trying to put my accounts together only for them to say "well, if you wasn't making any money, why didn't you come off this scheme earlier?" [sigh]

Thanks. I'd really appreciate any replies.
