Barclaycard charges for travelex

I recently purchased a large amount of US dollars online and paid for it using my Barclaycard, all well and good

I then get my Barclaycard statement and there are 2 charges on there for the transaction, an additional 3.7% commission on currency they never supplied:mad::mad:

I feel conned by them (I was as far as I'm concerned) and they are quite proud of taking this from me

Be warned, I'll never use them again for currency and I'd advise others not to do so either:mad::mad:

most credit cards count buying foreign currency as a cash transaction as well as a foreign transaction

Was it not in your T&Cs?

All cards say about foreign currency is charged, its the same as a cash advance

All cards are pretty much the same in my experience.

"Cash" transactions are clearly identified by the type of purchase (eg cash, travellers cheques, ATM withdrawals, gambling etc) and are not restricted to cash obtained from the issuer.

Generally an expensive business getting forex on a CC, with notable exceptions (eg Santander Zero)

Most Visa debit cards charge for foreign currency also, it depends on your provider as to how much.

Try it on Amex, that will really make you cry, they charged me an exchange rate very much in their favour and added a nice transaction fee on top of that on my last Euro/pounds transaction. Worked it out I would have been 30 pounds better off if I'd used my Mastercard. Needless to say, that card was cancelled the same day...
