Bext places to get boxes?

Options
Does anyone know where the best place is to get boxes for moving? The local supermarkets only have tiny ones and after looking at prices online they seem pretty expensive!!

We had planned to hire a removal firm as we're relocating but I've decided now it'll probably be a lot cheaper to rent a storage space of some sort and hire a transit van a week before we move, get all our bigger stuff moved into storage in the area we're moving to and then hire a van on the day of the move and get our stuff out of storage. Has anyone else done this?

    I went to the back of some offices near a local high street and they were all there perfectly folded - I think it was a stationary place and also an office. I also bought some basic cheap boxes from safestore but even these were a bit expensive.
  • We got all ours from asking friends, people at work and going on the local freecycle.

    Stationery suppliers, or Staples, Office Depot, Costco, Asda, or other supermarkets for Document Storage Boxes, and the tape, labels and bubble wrap to go with them.

    Pros;

    Designed to take lots of paper, so handle heavy weights very well.
    Have carrying handles.
    Have lids.
    Will stack easily.
    They fold flat, so you open them up to use in removal, then fold flat again and store in attic or garage for using again the next time you move

    Cons: You have to pay for them.

    Try companies that rent out storage space. Lok'n'store, safestore or similar.Bound to have one near you.

    Obviously a lot cheaper but, presumably, you have also allowed for the potential large amount of extra time and effort you will need to make.
  • ask at your local shops, We bin literally hundreds of large boxes each week and would be glad to give them away!

    The trouble with scrounging boxes is that a lot of them are too large. I would try first asking on your local Freecycle and keeping an eye open for removal vans and knocking on the door a couple of days after they have moved in. If you need to buy them then try local packaging companies in your area. Ring around as you will find prices vary quite a lot. The usual sizes are 12 inch cube for books, 18 x 12 x 12 and 18 inch cube. Self store companies sell them but they are usually expensive compared to packaging companies.
