I officially give up with trying to find an answer to this.

I'm not sure why, the info has been repeated several times in this thread, which bit do you not understand?

agreed it is very simple really.

if you have booked to travel 1st nov onwards and the flight was booked after the gov announced increased APD then the ticket cost takes in to account the increase already. So if a ticket booked today costs more than a few months back it is not due to the APD.

Whenohwhenohwhen is some enterprising co. going to offer a Coach + Plane package, say from London then via nearest French/Belgian/Dutch airport for long hauls? Maggie once said 'you can't buck the market' and I don't thing this govt should be allowed to.

Also I wonder: If you booked a coach + air package from one company (maybe even from an enterprising airline) with journey start in London but plane take off in EU, would it be exempt of this supertax?

You do not pay APD (AIR passenger duty) on road or rail travel.

And ref a pre post you dont have to buy 2 seperate tickets. (assuming the cheap classes allow stopovers)
You can get it on one ticket as long as the connection time between arriving from the UK in Europe on one flight and departing on another is more than 24 hours in most cases then you will just pay the standard rate £12.00 APD but the savings on APD are not that great when adding on the European countries taxes

A family going to the Caribbean would pay £48 instead of £300 tax flying via Schiphol

(the Dutch abandoned their big APD tax for sound reasons, UK govt however thinks it can hold it's captive audience)

There will still be Dutch charges to pay, about £26.00 per person, that link doesnt really cover the whole story.
I reckon you would save in taxes approx £37.00 per person going via AMS.(how many Caribean destinations can be reached direct from AMS, I make it 1, St Maarten)
I know this is MSE but take into account all the other things needed or problems that could be encountered and cost of fares then is it really worth it.
  • I had posted a comment on one of the other strings, the tax is retrospective (i.e. having bought a ticket before the date of any increase) still makes you liable for the additional duty. Last time this happened the duty was claimed on flights after the Feb from a November increase, this will be collected by the airline, either at the airport or in advance via email notice etc. The last time V.A. gave a £30 voucher to use for the next time if paid online as a sweetner (and no doubt to try and minimise disruption at check-in). B.A. swallowed the additional increase at a cost to them of some £3m.

I'm afraid you do not have a choice, if they ask for it you've got to pay or no flight.
