Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this but if not please feel free to move me mods.......
My car just failed its MOT and I have decided not to pay the £200 needed to fix it as it is our second car and tbh we can do without it. Its a P reg escort with about 96,000 miles on it and is a bit scratched in various places so I am thinking no one will want to buy it even to fix up. Can I sell it for scrap.... How much would you normally get for a car for scrap...
Thanks

I cant find anything on the search thing.... Can anyone point me in the right direction plaease
Thanks:p0 -
Why not put it on ebay or in the local paper. If you have the MOT fail sheet then that gives a purchaser a good indicator of what needs doing.
What did the car fail on?
Alternatively, look in yellow pages for a scrapyard/car dismantler, ask them over the phone how much, you may get £20 for it, maybe more if you can drive it there.0 -

You could break it for parts,or sell it complete for parts.one bit of advise i would give you is make sure you notify the dvla if you scrap it,do this yourself, dont leave it to the scrapyard to tell them. They send out fines for having no tax if not notified asap!! Hope this helps a bit. There are two sides to every story.

Scrap metal prices are on the way up again, around here (W. Mids.) it is not impossible to get 80 quid for a car if you take it to the scrappers yourself.
They usually pay on weight so I could not possibly suggest that the petrol tank is full (of water).0 -

They turn up & say, this isn't right, that isn't right, then say the'll only take it for free.
They know more often than not, you want rid of problem, particularly if car is not taxed & parked on the road.0 -
Just put it in ebay. my car had done 105,000 miles before timing belt went. Pretty worthless, but still got a couple of hundred quid off someone on ebay for it (and they collected of course)matched betting: £879.63

Ebay it you will get more for it probably a mechanic will buy it or DIYer or similar you will most definately get more than scrap value.
if you want to make some money off it you could break it and list the parks on ebay but this could take some time but isnt un heard of to make £1000 or more just selling bits.If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

The trouble with breaking a car yourself for parts,is that you end up with having to dispose of the shell and what's left yourself.
I would E.Bay it,but bear in mind the cost of doing this, once the hammer falls. You will know what the cost is anyhow, before you submit the listing.
And when doing your description, list what needs doing to it,and where possible, and cost permitting, add a pic of the car, and, say, one of the failure sheet.
And also, because it's free, put an ad in your local Ad Trader as well. That way you get more publicity.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
