I've just gone and purchased a laptop from https://www.laptopshop.co.uk and they have processed my order but sent me an email saying there is a problem and can I call them. When I rang - they told me that they need a form of ID faxing through to them to prove I live where I live and a form of my mother's ID (utility bill) faxing through also (as this is where I am having the laptop delivered) does this sound legit or will it be a mistake for me to send this through to them?

They're not asking for anything they can use to take money from your account. It seems that you are a tenant, not the owner of the property. As such, they seem to be carrying out standard tests so that they can satisfy themselves that you are who you say you are, and that you are at that actual address.
Anti-fraud measures it seems, rather than a scam.0
