gaiters have to be complete not missing, torn, defective. to bleed the sytem they would have had to crack a bleed nipple, im affraid you paid £25 for a top up of fluid if that. have aircon tested too see if its full or not. to adjust hand brake there a 10m nut under the gaiter on the hand brake itself, also adjusters behind the drums. with the gaiter incomplete it would have failed seek a complaint to vosa they will make an appointment to see you and your vehicle, try not to use the vehicle between now and the vosa inspection.0

VOSA normally take 2-4 weeks to inspect cars, so OP may have a problem in doing that!0 -
Kwikfit were highlighted on watchdog a few weeks back.
They were caught doing this sort of thing to numerous customers , claiming they had serviced the car and replaced parts when infact they hadnt !
Maybe mention this to kwikfit when you take the car back to them....The loopy one has gone :j0 -
I have spoken to Consumer direct, Trading Standards and VOSA.
Kwik fit were desperate for me to leave the car with them when I spoke to them this morning.
Consumer Direct were toothless. VOSA and Trading Standards are very interested. I am going down the route of get them investigated and 'Done'.
I hate to see people getting ripped off. I knew what to expect and inspect but others don't. I will update this when I have more info. VOSA reckon it could amount to a prosecution if found to be negligent. TS reckon similar.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. I had my car MOT'd and serviced at a Kwik Fit today. Before any says I knew what to expect, it was convenient for me and I still had a month of MOT left.
so it was'nt convenient for you then?IMOJACAR

In all fairness how you wells a spanner isn't governed. Being a mot tester is. They all so have a legal responsibility to make sure a car is safe. In this case they haven't.
Naive view here but regardless of employer all testers should have the same basic skill set.
Yes I have a few gripes with work done other than the mot but it is the serious one.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0 -
Don't quite know how I ended up here from the Employment threads, but I wouldn't drive within a 10 mile radius of Kwikfit for a loose screw (or whatever!). Some years ago (quite a few) I was a poor lawyer (yes, they exist!) and had a car with a "brakes problem". Being a lawyer and not a mechanic, all I knew was "the brakes aren't right - they don't stop when they should". Went to Kwikfit for a "brake test". They told me that the brakes weren't working (heh, miraculous - I worked that out) and I needed a whole new breaking system fitted. Cost £120 - not a lot now, but this was "some" years ago, and I wasn't at all rich! I needed the car. Two days work on it. £120. That I could ill afford. Drove out. Attempted to stop at the traffic lights (250 yards away) and went "Oh S!!t".
So I called in a favour from a knowledgable friend in a dog collar (very intimidating - dog collars!) who test drove my car and said the braking problems were not in "my head" (what KwikFit told me!) and that my car was dangerous. He took me and my car back, threatened the manager with hell, brimstone and trading standards (please don't think I am joking - I have odd friends!) and got me my £120 back. Then he took me to Halfords, spent 77p on some rubber rings, replaced them on my car - and the brakes worked perfectly. The one bit they didn't replace was the only bit that was wrong!
Wild horses wouldn't get me into KwikFit.....0 -
I think some places will just open one bleed nipple and consider that a full replacement. IMO all 4 bleed nipples and the clutch slave bleed nipple need to be undone. I doubt they'd look that much different once they had been undone TBH.0

The dirt on the bleed niples would have to be substantial 'caked' dirt to be sure there had been no intervention in those areas.
If there are bleed nipple caps (and one is missing) then those caps are supposed to keep the nipples clean and you would be unable to tell if there had been any intervention at all, unless there was clods of dirt surrounding the caps, very unlikely IMHO.
I think the only valid point you have is that it was given an pass with a torn gaiter.0 -
Bleed Nipples (no dirty jokes) on a 6 yr old car will probably be rusted in, unless fluid, has been changed regularly, if you try to undo them, theirs a good chance thell shear off.0
