Closing A&L/Santander Savings Account

I recenty closed two old savings accounts with A&L over the telephone. Very straight forward.
However, I must say I've seen it all now :rotfl:.
I received a cheque for the interest due on one account in the amount of £0.37 and another for £0.01 a week later - presumably for the second account. Quite why they could not have issued a cheque covering the two amounts I don't know - presumably 1 chq for each account had to be issued. Even then it was hardly worth the effort, not to mention the admin costs, postage etc involved for these minimal amounts. I'm ashamed to say I did bank the £0.37 chq but will not bother with the chq for £0.01.
Suggestion to A&L or whoever, when there is such a minimal amount of interest due on savings account closure, could this not be somehow given/donated to a charity. I am sure many people would willingly agree to this.

The form that we use in branch to close accounts has a tick box option on it which says "If my balance is below £1 please donate to a Santander charity" which at the moment I believe is the Pakistan flood appeal.0
