Reduced Hours....no option

Hi, Hope someone can help!
My employer has told me that they're closing one day of the week....Sunday!!
I work at weekends so this impacts me quite severely. I''m on a Family Friendly contract....i think thats what its called these days.
I simply can't work any other days/hours during the week, which leaves me with around 8 hours on a Saturday.
I've been told to attend a meeting with my Manager next week to talk about what I am going to do.
At the moment...i'm thinking about just working the Saturday which will be a struggle but can I request to reduce my hours temporarily until my youngest child goes to school? After that I could work some weekdays and it wouldn't be a problem, although thats still a couple of years away.
What I'm looking for from the experts on here is a list of things to say and ask at my meeting next week!
I would be really incredibly grateful for your help...because my Union have been useless thus far.
If you need more information from me please ask!
Thanks

If youre quite happy just to work the Saturday then just go with it and worry about doing other hours in 2 years time
the world can turn on its axis and your world turn upside down in that time.
Look forward to Sundays when you can spend some quality time with the family. Lucky you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Is there no way you could work few hours in the week when your child is in school? Maybe as holidaycover for the rest of the staff.
As mckneff says, enjoy our sunday off with the familyBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Only you know how flexable the employer is.
It will come down to that, your contract and what you want.
If your contract is fairly open on hours and times etc then it will be down to negotiation on where you go from here.
Chances are they need people to cut hours or leave unless they are extending hours elsewhere in the week so that could work in your vavour.
Tell them what you would like to do and see what they say.
You might want to consider that if you reduce hours and you are made redundant later any payment will be based on the new hours.
If your contract is more specific about your employment dats and times then that does open up the possibility of you negotiating redundancy, but that is probably not what you want.
In these sorts of situations unless the employer is known for being uncooprative then telling it staight is usualy the best way.
Sorry that you need to close Sun, I think I will find it difficult to do weekedays so can I do just Sat for now and review it when......
Also check if you have any restrictions on working elsewhere, you may want to consider asking for those to be removed so you can get Sun work if available elsewhere, depends on thetype of job you have.
Are ther time when working during the week would be possible, I guess it depends on child care and what your partner does.0
