Hello,

I just called admiral to accept a quote and found out tonight that I had a claim in 2008 with them, I questioned it and thought I never had a claim, they informed me that I inquired about a quote. I said O yes that was when someone has reversed into my back bumper and didnt leave there details in a car park and I called to ask if I claimed for this, would this affect my no claims bonus, they said yes it would, so I hung up and said to them forget it and ill get the bumper sorted myself. Now admiral wants another £245 extra for this none claim and is on insurance database. Am I right if I didnt claim, this shouldn't be on any type of database?

Some help would be great. Thanks for your time.
Kind Regards
Bill

The database isn't for claims only.

You are bound by your policy conditions to inform your insurer of all incidents you are involved in, and should declare them to others when applying for insurance.

Presumably you didn't declare this when first getting the quote you wanted to accept?

It was still an incident (with a loss) you were involved in, and that is what you are always supposed to report to them, (irrespective of whether or not you do actually claim).

They have correctly recorded it, and you need to declare it to any other insurer. (Some may not check up on you unless you make a claim, and non disclosure could then give them the opportunity to reject any claim.)

Quentin is right, but do make sure its been recorded as a £0 non fault claim. An extra £245 sounds like it may be down as something else.

It isn't a "claim" at all. It should have been recorded as an incident for info only.

And had it been a "claim" it would be considered a fault claim (as the OP was informed at the time when they told him were he to claim it would affect his NCD). Unless the insurer gets 100% recovery from the third party it goes down as a fault against you.

The bottom line is if you find a knock on your car and you don't intend to make a claim then tell the insurance company nothing. As far as they are concerned no news is good news.
