Just overheard on the news so didnt get full facts but it seems that nissan are recalling the micras due to the timing chain fault - saying cars wont start and can stop working. Ive just had mine replaced on my 05 micra last week at a total cost of £400 plus £40 to test it on the computer but I didnt get any receipts. Im really annoyed to say the least as I dont know if I would get anything back off the money Ive paid out. Also paid out £85 to have the cam sensor changed to see if that was the problem first.

Did Nissan carry the work out? You'd need full details obviously, namely the year of manufacture. If a private garage carried the work out, I'd imagine it's your problem, as they'll be out of pocket if you were refunded, and it's not their fault! Main dealer could be different though I'd imagine...

Edit: I see in your other post that you didn't go top a main dealer. I would imagine even with a receipt you'd be screwed now, unless Nissan agreed to pay you of course!

I understood from info on the internet that Nissan were not accepting any responsibility for the timing chain problem and as car not starting wanted to get the job done as cheaply as possible. Will wait to see what happens - gutted that Im now 500 plus out of pocket. Ill delete my other post.

just been reading about it - yes you are right no mention of the timing chain - but my car was stalling whilst running, then engine management light came on and took it to two garages who both said (after putting it on the computer) that it was the timing chain - had it fixed and now is running ok. Dont know whether the two are linked. I think I am just wanting to rant.

I got excited for a minute thinking they'd all be taken off the road!

I like mine - but after Id bought it found out the most popular names of the owners were Sheila, Margaret, Susan, Joyce etc - get my drift - looked at them in a different light after that.

The biggest problem is they are somehow limited to 28mph whatever roads they are travelling on...and usually the driver is wearing a hat?
