Don't suppose by any chance you have a solid fuel stove or open fire?
For years I have put the oven on for up to 2 hours to cook jacket potatoes (don't like them microwaved).
Last week decided to double wrap them in tin foil and pop into the coals in the stove for an hour instead. Gorgeous:j :j
Can't believe all that fuel I have wasted over the years:eek:

Oooh I'm so jealous!!! Firebaked potatoes eaten straight out off the foil are delish ;)

    Hi there,

I'm sure I've seen a posting from someone who part-bakes their potatoes in the microwave, then freezes them, then finishes them in the oven when required. Can anyone help me find this - or does anyone else use this process?
I have done a search and cannot find the posting. But I'd very much like a few in the freezer for quick, frugal baked potato meals.
    TIA

I reheated a potato in the microwave today and it was nice. I'm interested in this as well, especially if the potato reheats in the microwave from frozen if it was fully baked in the first place?

Potatoes are such a cheap, healthy and convenient thing to eat.

I'd like to know how to do the same with roast pots?
Bought some Tesco ones before Xmas and they were surprisingly nice, they were in goose fat.
So how do I make them please???

Hi do you mean you cook the potato fully and then reheat? i've thought about doing this to take to work - ie cook night before with whatevers in the oven then bang in the microburner at work - do they not dry out ?

I love jacket spuds but hate heating the oven for just a couple of them... Has anyone tried freezing them, then defrosting and microwaving?

I know they wouldn't be crispy but I would forego that if I could have them more often without associated oven cost :money:

    Cheers OSers

I used to work in a pub that did this! They used to buy in oven cooked frozen jacket potatoes and heat them up in the microwave. I always thought they tasted quite nice to be honest, not as good as oven cooked fresh jacket but better then one that had been cooked solely in the microwave.

My mum does it, she says they don't have the crunch that oven baked does but it does save her time and money, she bakes a dozen at a time and wraps them in foil.

She always seems to just run out of them when they go on offer or are part of a super six type thing. She's so jammy.
