I went into w-h-smith with my One For All giftcards having spent them in w-h-smith before. I got to the till and the woman tried to scan one of them through and she said they weren't accepted here, so I gave her the other one and she huffed and said that that one wasn't either. I tried to get my credit card out and couldn't find it and ended up having to use a different card and she was actually laughing at me. Anyway they have enough money on and it says on the giftcard site they are accepted there so what should i say when they tell me I can't use them?

I had the same thing with a capital bond gift card. Although it states quite clearly on the capital bond website that you can use them at whsmith, they refused to take it. I used it a few days later at a different branch who took it without a problem.0

I received a coupon from a cosmetic company in compensation for a faulty item. It had a barcode, a hologram of the company name (Revlon) and clearly stated on the front which shops accepted it. When I tried to spend it, the girl at the till looked at it as though it was an alien artifact! It took 3 members of staff and a telephone call before they would let me use it. The worst thing was all the muttering between the staff, who treated me as though I was some kind of con artist by using a coupon worth.....wait for it......£3.50!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

this happened to me in new look - it tanspired that the till operator had designated it as a credit card sale- and the till wouldn't accept it- we waited ages then a supervisor came along said " no it;s a gift card" changed the designation on the till and it went through a treat.
I am sure half of these "errors" are downb to poor staff training in payment methods0 -

Or that these vouchers are used so infrequently that Staff forget how to put them through the tills.
When I worked at Sainsburys there were so many possible payment options but about 80% of them I only ever used about once in the whole year I worked for them. I generally called a supervisor over when I was unsure but sometimes even they couldn't remember and it was often a case of trial and error.0 -
Those one4all gift cards are a bit fiddly. We accept them, but they go through as a debit card, and get declined unless you are spending the amount on there or more.
Also on a WHS topic, can somone who works there explain why, every time I buy something (even a couple of bottles of drink), there's always random lines on the receipt at £0.00 that I have no idea about?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Probably a voucher that has to be scanned at till and handed out to everyone.
What does the receipt actually say ?0 -

I noticed they do that, they scan the voucher before they give it to you. Although sometimes they seem to scan it and then not give you it, maybe the till tells them if they should or not after they scan it.0 -

LMAO .. It's more the fact that the staff get sick of picking the darn things up off the floor and from around the shop where customers just drop them, screw them up and chuck them anywhere they want on their way out of the shop0 -

Doesn't bother me, one less piece of paper to get rid off. Now if only they would stop asking if you want half price chocolate every time you go in there.0 -
That explains a lot then. I hardly ever use the free vouchers anyway.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
