Hiya!
Im considering treating myself to having some hair extensions put in. my hair is very fine and does not grow very well. i have clip in extensions which i use every time i go out but i think they are more obvious looking than the glue in extensions.
was looking for other peoples experiences of the glue in bonded extensions. would you recommend them? how much did they cost you? did they badly damage your hair?

It's not my own personal experience but my best friend had these for about 2 years non stop. She had long and thick extensions but no more than average I would guess but it would take her over an hour to wash and condition her hair with the extensions in so that may be something to consider? And then you can only use special shampoo's so the bonds wouldn't get ruined. Not sure if it has changed since but she says now that she wouldn't go back to them as it did damage her hair quite a bit.
Don't know if that is any help but thought I would pass it on.
In regards to the clip in's - you should have these perfectly matched to your hair - the shop you buy it from should select different shades to give you a natural look. If it's disguising the clips and joins you're worried about being noticeable then take them with you next time you go to the hairdresser and they will advise on ways to disguise this better!

My wife has mentioned an interest in hair extensions lately, and I thought I would buy her some for Christmas. But I have absolutely nooooooo idea!
Pre-bonded, clip-in, human hair, synthetic hair ?? what the..... difference ?
Could someone please help direct me here please? She has short brown hair. Do I need to know the exact colour, or because she dies it, does it just need to be close and she can die the hair extensions also?
I have come across Halo Hair Extensions - has anyone any experience of them?. They appear top of the searches in google, their images are the clearest I have seen & their prices seem alright?.
If you think it will likely be a failure for me to buy her extensions... please let me know!
Any help would be really really really appreciated!0 -
I had hair extensions over 20 years ago, and am about to have them again.
fjamesm I would say the best thing to do is to get your wife vouchers for a good salon that does them, then if she decides not to have them done she can have free hairdos for a while instead.
When I first had them done, my hair was only 3 inches long, and the hairdresser said he would have liked my hair to be longer. I went for fake and very long so there was no doubt it was not my hair, but now the results can be really natural if done well. Google good/bad hairextensions for some ideas!
With regards to real or fake hair, price is a real consideration (real is double the cost of fake). Also flammability, fake hair goes up quickly, I was always worried if anyone came near me with a cigarette!
No real downside apart from a headache initially that was down to weight of hair!"If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.":DMiss Mona, The Best Little *****house in Texas0 -
Hi if your hair is fine and doesnt grow very well, have you thought about wigs, they really have come a long way:D loads of different colour and styles To be honest I would'nt suggest it as any type of hair extention can/will damage your hair. good luck with what ever you choose.Don't sweat the small stuff, Its all small stuff.0

I have always used clip in real extensions. The are less damaging to your hair, they can be taken out so you can chose what you would like your hair like and cheaper. Glue in hair extensions are lovely but I know too many people who have bad experiences like alopecia due to hair being too heavy, thinning of hair and tangles due to the glue. All these affect different people and its really about finding what is right for you, one persons hair is completely different to another persons. I personally would go ask your local hairdresser to give you a consultation and if you have decided to keep with the clip in hair extensions, they will be able to cut the extensions so it looks part of your current hairstyle and show you how to put them in without anyone noticing

I had extensions, prob about 10 inch long ones, full head, real hair bonded extensions.
I lasted 3 weeks before getting them removed.
They made my head sore, I couldn't wash/brush my hair properly, it took hours to do anything with it (as stated above) I couldn't sleep on them comfortably and although they looked nice they were simply not worth the bother.
Oh and they were very very expensive also.
Final thing, I was allergic to the liquid they used to remove them.
I'm sure there are people who have had better experiences than me but that is mine.2 angels in heaven :A0 -
I have "great lengths" extensions in they cost £650.
Been in for four months now.
Have gone from just shoulder length to half way down my back.
Had 3 colours put in to blend and look natural.
luckily I work remotely so I don't see my colleagues that often in person just had xmas do and not one of them realised.
Got loads of compliments my husband loves them.
You do have to use special products and these are £30 for 3 bottles (shampoo, conditioner and anti tac) these last around 8 weeks.
The antic is amazing and leaves your hair super soft.
My own hair is growing really long underneath.
Love them wish I had them years ago.
Don't go for cheap ones, the real hair, double drawn, individiually matched and bonded ones are worth every penny.
Took 5.5 hours to put mine in !"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

I am a recovering hair extension addict lol. I have had balmain, racoon, great lengths and foxy hair hair extensions.
To be honest it really depends how much time you have to put into styling the extensions. I got really sick of having to wash my hair and extensions pretty much every day, be really careful with my hair, not be able to get into my natural hair and brush it properly, having to spend ages styling it etc. It is so high matinence and alot of upkeep! Plus very expensive, the last ones I had were the best and lasted 4 months, but that's like £400-500 every 4 months. I had individual bonds (but I have had wefts in before, which are terrible IMO, they get matted in with your natural hair) glued in and when they got taken out there was alot of glue still in my hair, and my hair was alot thinner, because obviously they bond the extensions very close to your scalp and it is pulling on your hair no matter how well they are put in. I just stick to clip ins now when I need a bit of a boost! The feeling I got when I first got them taken out and actually got to proper wash my own hair was the best feeling in the world lollol."Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."0 -
Wow I find I only wash my hair every 4-5 days, the length gives weight and keeps the hair straight & smooth.
I tie my hair up in a loose ponytail at night to prevent tangling,a good brush every few hours and easy peasy.
Guess I'm lucky I don't get greasy hair ever.
I think it has cut my drying time in fact, styling can be fiddly to make sure no bonds are visible."Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
