Kitchen sink leaking

The part where the waste pipe meets the bottom of the sink is leaking. It is as though it is not tight enough if you see what I mean, the water is coming from around where there appears to be a rubber washer as though the pipe is not tightly enough against the washer.

Is there any chance at all that this is something I can do myself or should I forget it and call a plumber?

Thanks guys.

It sounds like it would be simple to fix. The rubber washer may just be old and no longer sealing properly. If it has been there for some time I would go to somewhere like B&Q where you can get a new sink outlet for a few pounds. You will need to check that it is compatible with the next bit of pipework, you may need to change some of that too.
My husband recently did this job for a friend, the sink was 40 years old, but it all fitted easily and no extra bits were needed.
  • Thanks. It is pretty old from what I can tell. I will have a go at unscrewing it to have a look but I may need to enlist someone with some strength!
  • Hmm. I cannot figure out how the top of the pipe is attached to the sink, anyone? Could take a photo...

If you could post a photo I would hope someone (or even me) could identify the setup and tell you what to do. Is the sink plastic, by the way?

You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
