First Direct giveaway

I'm baffled by the First Direct offer as described by Martin and on their own website. Sign up for the account - get £100. Not happy with it six months later - close the account and get another £100. So they'll pay you to lose your business?! That's insane!

  • They're confident you won't want to and having transferred to them myself, I agree. You would have to pay me a lot more than £100 to move my banking away from them.

They make you go around in circles if you want to leave and get £100. That way they are able to understand what they need to improve on.

Anyway if a person does leave because of problems they probably know that they would not make any money from that person if they kept their account open.

What if you just want to leave to get the £100? A perfectly valid reason would be because there are savings accounts out there that will give you a higher interest rate if you deposit your wages in each month.

That would not be considered as a valid reason....to get the £100 for leaving them, you need to some arguments that they have provided you with a very poor service...

That would be laughed at so much. Anyway there are savings accounts by FD that are really good.

But as has been said, not a service related problem.

Well, laughing at a customer would certainly be poor service.

Anyway, thanks all for clarifying. In other words, ignore the second £100 when weighing up the pros and cons of each account.

Yes forget about the second £100 unless they offer you a Santander style service.

Surely just bad/terrible/atrocious service is enough, doesn't have to do the whole Santander on you! :p
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.

Santander work very hard. I dont know at what but very hard. I think its sad that Santander get a bad name. All they really are is Abbey and they were bad enough anyway.

As someone else has said, you would have to pay me a LOT more than £100 to leave First Direct and accept the poor excuse for customer service that other banks have.
