Magnolia??

Options
To cut a very long story short I need to decorate my flat.

After buying every tester pot going in B&Q I finally decided on Jasmine White......painted the living room with it and well its too.......white, and I hate it!

Quite a few ppl have suggested magnolia, is that a nice colour?

Funnily enough I quite like the colour in my parents bathroom and when I asked my Mum what it was........Magnolia!

Anyway Im looking for a cream that will go with anything. Is magnolia the answer?

Probably. Magnolia is a yellowy cream thats pretty indistinct and hence goes with most things.

Magnolia is a decent cream colour. Its often Mocked as it seen as a landlords and developers favourite. However, if you like it, then go for it. Word of warning though, Magnolia differs from one manufacturer to another, so Dulux Magnolia will differ slightly to crown. Prob need to get some tester pots.

We've got Dulux magnolia in our bedroom and ivory in lots of other rooms. Ivory is slightly more buttery and seems warmer. In contrast the magnolia looks a bit greyish to me. But there's not really that much in it.

Definitely recommend getting a couple of tester pots. We paint pieces of A4 paper and hold them up e.g. next to curtains, carpets, furniture rather than just having a patch on the wall (that only shows you how well the new colour would go with the old colour :rotfl:)

Magnolia is the base colour of lots of new builds a trade pot of it is usually quite chep too...it goes with everything its more your traditional cream colour than jasmine white, which can be a little harsh. I have it in my hallway and kitchen..but I have started to move away to the more truffle colours since my husband declared that "she'll have any colour in the house as long as its magnolia!"

Try different testers of different creams and on different walls.... Depending on the time of day, the direction and the position of the window, colours can look very different...

We have just moved in to a house that we have had gutted and many of the rooms (drawing room, dining room, kitchen, utility, study, WC and one bedroom) are Barley White/Barley Twist (Dulux) and it is a gorgeous warm, sunny cream.... Our hallway is almond White and our bedroom is daffodil White, but I probably prefer the Barley! Would have done the whole house in it, but was worried that would have been too boring...

Forget what reputation colours have and just go with what works for you - it is you who has to live there, afterall :)

  • Magnolia is an excellent colour, but some people find it boring. I have painted no end of spare rooms in it, simply because its so cheap! You can get a 15 litre tub of magnolia from any DIY shop for about 10quid. Thats enough to paint 2 entire bedrooms 2 coats of paint.

I did my current spare room in magnolia - ceiling, walls and white glossed the wood work. The room now looks lovely clean and really warm. It seems to change colour during the day also, as the sun comes into the room. So, for the money, it worked out a very cheap and satisfying way to redo a room.

It's a decent solid colour. It's also going to be banned from our new house - I've rented for nearly a decade and I'm sick to the eyeballs of it!
