Capital One - Activate?

My wife has been accepted for a Capital One Card with payment protection and received the pin number today, so I assume the actual card will soon be on its way. My query is this, as my wife has hard surgery to her throat etc due to cancer, her voice is barely hearable, especially down the telephone, so will she have to speak to someone at Capital One to activate the card? She doesn't recall an option on the online application whereas she could tell them about any difficulties such as needing braille etc where she could have told them about her illness. Will they talk to me?

Can the card be activated online or through an automated service at all ? Many thanks

Many activation lines are automated with no need to speak to anyone. Don't specifically know about Cap 1.

Suggest you just try the number and see how it goes - you'll need to explain if she has to speak to a person and see how it goes.

Cap 1's isn't automated and AFAIK they don't offer an alternative. Just have to suck it and see...

I just activated and was on the phone for 10 minutes listening to some guy reading scripts, trying to sell me PPI. I said I wasn't interested but he still insisted on telling me about it, which took about 5 minutes and ended with "I'll add that to your account, is that ok?"
  • You do have to speak to alive person. I also today had my card activated i was going to be told about "additional services" offered by Cap1 and i told them if its about PPI I am not interested and its not for my there was a slight pause and then i was told about other general stuff and they set up my DD over the phone even though i told them i could do it online.

More to the point, is the payment protection likely to pay out given that your wife has already had surgery for cancer?

When I turned down PPI I was told that there is no charge if there is no outstanding balance on the card so because I pay the balance off in full I would essentially have the service for free. Is this right?

    'Fraid not.

And AFAIK PPI doesn't cover carholders for pre-existing conditions.

Already having a condition that could cause permanent unemployment isn't covered. If you already had PPI when the cancer was discovered; it would be more likely covered.

Well, I turned it down anyway. But it sounds like Capital One were mis-selling PPI on that occasion.
