Nightmare; AOL redirecting all my calls to Accounts Dept

I am on an AOL broadband and calls package. Line rental is BT

A week ago I discovered that when I dialed out, my calls were directed to AOL accounts. I had to wait several minutes to get the call answered

It transpired that because my Credit Card had changed my number due to security issue, the regular AOL mandate could no longer collect the monthly fee. Of course, they did NOT email me about it, which have been the sensible option. The first I knew was the redirect.

ANyway, I paid it immediately. I was told it would take up to 48 hours to remove the redirect, which I thought was pretty poor. ANyway, 1 week later and it still is not lifted. AFter 3 calls to them, via the redirect, and giving security details twice, they say there is a technical problem which will take days to resolve.

Has anyone had this redirect thing?

It's impossible to dial out.

Shame on you AOL

Use a 1280 prefix to send all your cals via BT.

Or is AOL now using WCLI so you cannot do that?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks for the tip; would try it now but i'm in the queue to customer service (5 minutes +)

  • the aol tecnincal person asked me to dial 17070 and see what it says

turns out to be a line test telling me my own number, with 4 line test options

    WHAT IS THE POINT??

now i have to be directed to accounts, to transfer me to customer service, to transfer me to technical to speak to somebody different,

oo no, they just disconnercted my call, back to square one.
    Todays mission started at 8.30am

Estimate i've called them on 8 separate days now.

  • The indian customer services person will not transfer me to any body, not even a supervisor, not even technical person. I'm not sure why?

He says that there is a problem affecting hundreds of thousands of people.

He says it will be fixed in 24hrs for sure and they are working very hard to fix it

Funny they said that 7 days ago, and yesterday promised it would sorted today

That (the 4 line test options) just confirms the line is a BT line (i.e. you pay line rental to BT) and AOL is only your CPS (Carrier PreSelect) calls provider.

Apart from that, it's a good way of getting rid of a call with which they have no idea how to deal.

Haha! They had previously asked me to try another handset. I didn't fall for that one.

24 hours later and the call barring is still on. Over 2 weeks now.
