NATWEST -LOVE the internet banking system which I've found easy to use - only have to use a card reader to set up new payees.
HATE the continuous phone calls to myself/wife insisting that our current account review (sales meeting) is now due!!!!0 -

Four working days (e.g. payment requested at 19:30 on Monday, leaves Wednesday, arrives Friday). I know I'm being pedantic but you wouldn't count the day you request the payment, as after 6pm you're no longer on the working day.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
I also really like Natwests online banking, and the UK call centres, and the fact that cheques only take 2 days to clear. I also have a basic account with lloyds and their online banking is also very good. Not so keen on the fact that the debit card can only be used lloyds ATMs, but it's not my main account and isn't used for cash withdrawals so I can live with it!Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

That's still not correct, if you're not specifying working days, then you have to include weekends, which can increase the timescale beyond five days. So if I tweak my original example, payment requested at 19:15 on Friday, leaves Tuesday, arrives Thursday - excluding the day it's requested that's six days.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. Lloyds TSB (Or Lloyds Bank as they are soon to be reverting back too!!)
Love
Online Banking, Customer Service, Products they offer always fit my needs, ENGLISH CALL CENTRES (sorry, but that is a very important thing for me, so i can actually understand them for a start!!), The fact they gave me a second chance after me screwing up and getting loads of debts with them years ago through DMP's etc - Now have a fantastic rating with them and get all i want/need.
Hate
Nothing - Sorry, but its true, I just love them!!
NATWEST
No Love, just Hate - screwed me over many a time, some my fault, some not, not a very sympathetic bank - especially to an ex-employee (from years ago)0 -
HSBC

1. When I was setting up the Receivership account for my uncle under COP rules, only HSBC knew what I was talking about and set up a proper current account with a cheque book and debit card - all the other banks and building societies wanted to set up a "RE:" account which was just going to be a lousy instant access book account without even a decent interest rate to compensate for the fact that I needed to go into the branch every time I needed to pay his nursing home fees and buy him new clothes.
2. Opening on Saturdays until 5pm.
3. Getting a loan at a good interest rate and no PP mis-selling.
 DISLIKE
1. For not recognising the difference between commercial receivership and the guardianship of an old man's money and charging business rates on what was effectively the meagre pension of an old man.
2. For opening on Saturdays without a counter service - I can't get to a bank on a weekday and sometimes have to deposit coins.
3. For not having any independence from head office. When I was starting my new job, it took a good hour to negotiate one suspension of the repayment and arranging to pay twice in the following month. I was promptly hounded by the payment collection bunch by home phone, mobile and email when the date for the suspended payment came and went.
I made the mistake of answering the phone on a Saturday afternoon and spoke to an idiot who only checked the arrangements for my account AFTER I had explained to her that I had gone into my branch to negotiate the single suspension and explained that I would be paying twice in the following month. She then "offered" to take the payment from my account that day as I had enough funds. I had £200 in my account to last me to the end of the month and she was "offering" to take over half that. As soon as the loan is repaid, I am outta there!
  HATE WITH A VENGEANCE
THE HALIFAX
They mistakenly charged me for going overdrawn, told ME to prove THEM wrong by fax, gave me the wrong fax number and now some random person in Leeds has my account details, my name, address, the details of my job and complaint and have they apologized? Have they BUFFALO!
When I was paying off my overdraft so I could shut down my account with them, I called them once a month after I'd been paid to chip a little more off. AND THEY ALWAYS transferred me to the Northern Ireland call centre who would routinely tell me that they didn't normally get phone calls about current accounts and proceed to faff about looking up what to do.
For the lousy maintenance of their ATMs - When I banked with them they never refilled the receipt rolls and there was always a malfunctioning machine at my branch.
NATIONWIDELIKE
1. They are always happy to help. After I found a job after being made redundant, money was going to be tight. They were happy to suspend payment of the mortgage for one month to tide me over until my first pay day in my new job. The fact that they had been paid roughly three times what I owed in January must have helped - the Mortgage Interest Relief Scheme kicked in just in the nick of time.
2. They have a full counter service whenever they open on a Saturday.DISLIKE
1. Their fairly random Saturday opening hours. Here in Wolverhampton, the main branch opens 'til 3pm, in Shepherd's Bush in London it's 12pm. What's that about?

Dear Lord, who banks with these cretins?
When I was looking around for a Receivership account, I tried to open an account with this bunch of no-hopers. After being assured that I could have all the 'trappings' of a current account (cheque book, debit card etc), I left it with them. I was, I was assured, going to receive everything through the post.
One week later, having received nothing, I was back and received an account book. In my name alone. Not my uncle's name. No apology, no explanation and genuine dismay when I asked to shut the account down.
They couldn't understand why, after being promised a current account, I wasn't happy with an instant access savings account with no interest to speak of and the inconvenience of having to visit the branch every time I needed to take money out. Weeks later, I even received a customer satisfaction survey asking my opinion. Prats!:huh: Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

agreed
Can't you upgrade your Cashpoint card to a VISA debit one0 -
My main experience is with LLoyds, I dont ever use call centres or need Saturday opening but do use online banking all the time and quite happy with Lloyds online system.
I would find card readers a pita too, only ever had one from Nationwide and never got to use it.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
