DVD Drive showing up as Removable drive!

Hi

Ive got a HP DX2200 and bought a dvd-r drive for it:

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?QuickLinx=45BS

There is only 1 data cable in the machine, already connected to the existing DVD drive. Ive plugged the second part of this into the new drive and plugged in the power supply. The new drive works but is coming up as a removable disk on the PC. Plus I can't see any disk contents when I put a CD / DVD.

Any ideas?

Have you set the jumpers on the dvd drives right, the first one being a master and the second as a slave? Could be both set to master

  • The three types of drives you will see in the XP My Computer folder are Hard Disk Drives, Network Drives, and Devices With Removeable Storage.

Optical drives fall into the third category.

I had mine showing as a CD drive - I just need to go into the system bios (I think F2 on bootup before windows kicks in) and configure the new drive. Since then it has been perfect.
