Can anyone recommened me a LCD/Plasma for around £400 - £460 with its size being atleast 37" but preferably 42".
The TV will be used for general watching, no sports in HD or Movies although have standard HD channels etc, but may get movies in due course when offers come around again.
Thanks

If you try the amazon website there are quite a few full HD 40" Tv's around your budget. Obviously you are the lower end of the market and will get less bang for your bucks at that price. But as you stated you're not bothered much about sports etc so probably most of those tv's would be fine.
As for personal recommendations I don't know. I have a small LG in the kitchen that has a good picture on standard definition and my main tv is a panasonic lcd which also has a very good picture although panasonics tend to be more expensive and probably wouldn't come into your price range at that size.0 -

So do you have Sky/Virgin or are you talking about Freeview HD?
Either way, your best future proofing yourself and getting a 1080p TV, as for brand allegiance.. well read the reviews and see what comes best for your cash!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -

SKY HD Mate !!0 -
Well I previously had an LG42LH5000 and it was faulty.. turned out that whole range was faulty according to AV-forums.
My gf on the other hand has an LG 32LH3000 which is fantastic, we hooked it up to SKY HD and the picture is amazing!
So hit and miss with LG.
Motion blur can be a factor with cheaper LCD's. My advice would be to look at the models you like on the AV-forums and see if anyone has had any problems in regards to picture quality!
Plasma is a lot better but suffers from things like Image retention.. and costs a bit more too!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Generally Sony and Panasonic are the brands to go for for reliability and good Customer Service but obviously they mostly come at a premium price.
LG probably suffer the most from problems especially with their screens and poor Customer Service. Samsung also have their share of problems, have problems sourcing parts and generally tend to abandon support for models once they are 18 months old.
Toshiba TVs are generally well built and suffer few problems and have great Customer Service.
