Heathrow Hotels

Hi,
We are traveling from Heathrow in April for the first time. We usually use Manchester. We have decided to go by rail but we are struggling to get good information on which would be the best/cheapest/nearest hotel location to Terminal 3.

Would you stay in London then travel down or is Heathrow the best option?

Tube or Heathrow Express?

All help appreciated.

You need to check your terminal, there is no terminal 2 as it has been demolished. Terminals 1 and 3 are closest to the hotels on the Bath Road, so the Premier Inn or Ibis will probably be the cheapest. Terminal 5 is miles away on its own, and only used by BA, they have a Travelodge close by. Terminal 4 is at the other side of the airport, Jurys Hotel is probably the closest of the less expensive hotels.

As to whether to stay in London or not it may depend on your circumstances. If your flight is early morning, I would have no hesitation in saying stay at the airport. You do not need the added stress of wondering whether the Piccadilly Line is working or not, however if your flight is 1100 or later you might want to spend the evening in London. Be aware that the tube fare is 4 times less than the Heathrow Express which costs £18 one way and you still have to get a tube to Paddington to pick it up. You might get a low cost room in London if you book early eneough but April includes Easter when rooms may be in short supply!
  • Alan gives some great advice re the hopper/tube - definitely worth comparing the two.

If you're looking for the lowest price hotel you should consider the EasyHotel, it will be VERY basic but IME always clean. You can then get an airport hopper to your terminal for £4 (EasyHotel is the furthest hotel on the hopper's route, but you pay the same as the hotels right next to the terminal).

There are so many hotels around Heathrow all with too much capacity that I would never book anything far in advance as there there are so many lastminute deals to be had.

As for the "best" hotel... airport hotels the world over are all the same - designed for people checking in, going to sleep then leaving a few hours later.

From an MSE viewpoint probably the best hotel deal around is Feltham

Most airport hotels themselves only have very expensive eating options and you have to pay around £4 a head for the shuttle to the airport.

If you can pick up Feltham Travelodge it's right by the station-has lots of reasonable eating places within yards and a big supermarket if you want to DIY it.

The bus runs very frequently to both the central bus station at Heathrow for terminals 1 2 and 3 and 5 there is a seperate bus that goes directly to terminal 4. Takes around 20 minutes-starts running really early (before 5am) and the fare using an Oyster card is £1.20 .

So if you can pick up a £9 Travelodge deal even with the bus you've got it all for under £15

The bus from Feltham Travelodge (route 285 to Heathrow Central) runs 24/7 i believe. I stayed there for 2 weeks when i first started working at Heathrow and used it everyday. Very convenient.
  • Thank you for all your helpful replies. I will wait for the travelodge sale in for April bookings:T
