Collection and wording of listing

I have been selling some items collection mainly and have had few problems,I did keep my communications very clear.I notice some sellers are claiming they will relist if the item isnt collected by said date.
Can this be done,or would you lose your selling fees.

If they can show that you didn't pay (by no paypal payment) they can get selling fees back.
I think that if seller asks for it to be picked up by a certain date that it is only fair to stick to that or not bid if you can't pick up by then. Just my opinion though.

How would you enforce it? Unless you can get the buyer to agree to a mutual (which if you refuse to sell i doubt it) yes you will lose your FVFs. Also if you open a NPB all they need to do is pay via PP and if you have relisted you could then be !!!!!!ed and have two buyers for one item and 2 sets of final value fees.

As long as you have been specific then they should come. The problem is of you open a NPB, and they then open a INR claim it could get a bit catty….

As a buyer it’s a pain trying to collect, sellers I have dealt with in the last few weeks have avoided questions about potential availability, or dates they want big things gone by, and then come back after the auction has ended at like midnight, and asked for me to pick up the day the auction ended….

They should all take a leaf out of your book and be specific…

The bottom line is that ebay is more trouble than it is worth, a few examples:

1. I bought an occasional table described as "recently sanded and revarnished to high standard would "grace any home" it was a cicular pub type table that had been painted with varnish all over, it is now gracing my back garden with a plant pot on it-money wasted £55

2. bought a clock described as good working order "may need a clean and service"

It gains 20 mins a week which I don't call good working order, and service is £60/£80 but seller is in right because he said "it may need a service"

money wasted £90

I watched a leather chair for 14 days with 2 hours to go I was winning bid at £130 when seller withdrew item (presumably he didn't think he was getting enough cash) chair is back on ebay at BUY IT NOW £225

Or how about this gem, wife bought digital camera when it arrived it had a sticker on it "property of ******* school" a London school.

The bottom line is that ebay sellers know how to play the game and us honest folk don't.

I've done with ebay a loss of £150 is enough to kill the bargains I genuinely did get, you may as well shop in the high street at least you get a guarantee.

Sellers should make it clear when the item needs to be collected by if they have a specific time-frame in mind. To impose unreasonable demands on a buyer is as bad as a buyer not contacting within a reasonable period of time. If you treat people fairly then you will get fair treatment in return.

@Jaf - your experiences are not typical otherwise eBay would be ancient history by now. While you have had a run of bad luck, and while I would agree that certain items are best bought elsewhere, I don't think it's really relevant to this particular thread to repost your specific issues. Nor are all sellers bent - I've had a lot of pleasure getting a little money from eBay for some items and in over 1000 transactions as both buyer and seller I've yet to have any major issues at all. If you know what you are getting yourself into then you should avoid a number of the obvious problems.

Ok,I think I will just continue what I am doing.I am clearing out furniture from a house we moved into,there is no urgency,I think that is when the problems occur.Luckily I have the space in the garage for now to store the non-textile stuff,and thanks to ebay I am making money on lots of things I got for free.Learning as I go along.thanks for the advice so far.I am clear in my collection timescale times,as I dont want too many people knocking on my door at 9.30 at night-thats my time.mainly so far people have respected the times we agreed.
