You'll probably be in shock the first time, after a few times you'll be blase/on autopilot, and after a few years (of therapy :p ) you'll be able to laugh about it.

But one look at them sleeping, or smiling at you :heartpuls , and you'll forget all about it :D

And if not, just remember you'll get your own back on them in 60-odd years time :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

hi can i just suggest when pram/pushchair shopping think about what your going to be using it for-small ones are great for when your shopping or travelling on buses or putting in boot of car but not good for walking (days out in country etc) for which you need one with good suspension. i never even thought about it and didnt really know anything about pushchairs when looking-so do your research! i ended up buying a small one but have spent most of my time out walking so regret it very much now-my poor ds has a bit of a bumpy ride whenever we go anywhere x

Petroleum jelly-acts as a barrier on the bottom ,neither of my kids got nappy rash and my Mum swears it's because of this.

Hand held blender for making food

Grobags-especially if you've got fidgetty (sp) sleepers who kick off covers

    Room temperature thing

    Muslin squares

Gripe water-used to put some in babes water bottle to help wind

Socks to put on babys hands-sounds weird but the scratch mits never used to stay on so we used baby socks instead

Baby bouncer-used to travel with me everywhere, good when baby is starting to wean and too small for a high chair (this was a 'joint' present from a couple of friends from Argos (Chicco £26)and scrubbed up so well that DS got use of it too)

White vinegar!!- for cleaning the steam steriliser

Baby bag-the one that has enough compartments to fit the entire world in

Travel system-bought Graco Mirage one for £70 (or my Dad did) came with 3 positions for baby laying down,raincover-usually retail for about £20-£30)comfy handles big basket ,big wheels, very easy to put down and light-this was 3 1/2 years ago though;)

Anyway congratulations on your pregnancy-and don't buy any baby clothes other than vests and babygros, that what friends and family are for :p

Just changing the subject slightly for a moment. I remember when I was expecting my one and only, seeing the list for stuff to take to the hospital with you.

It said so many pairs of pants and I went out and bought all new ones, not having a clue that they would be absolutely ruined!!!:) I could have taken my baggy old greyed ones and they would have done the job. It was an expense I could have done without!!

  • For me it was the in car seat base that you put the baby car seat into with just one click (If you buy a travel system that is). It was worth not hanging around in the rain getting wet and cold trying to fix the seat belt in and out and over the car seat!

Also, on the travel system note, it means you can transfer baby from car to pram to car again without disturbing at all. Brilliant x
  • on the baby bath discussion i was looking at the tummy tubs for my arrival in april , they say there great for new borns but my friend has informed me that a new born can not be emersed in water as the umbilical cord needs to heal ??? is that the case ???

News to me? My son got immersed from day 2! I had one of those tummy tubs but never used it, I also had one of the shaped sponges you lay in the bath & it was fab, used from 2 days old & never looked back!

no you wouldnt immmerse a baby in water. when bathing a newborn, you only tend to fill the bath about 2" deep, and then just cup water in your hand, and pour it over the baby, its a less than 1 minute job, as they get cold so quickly.

just make sure you dry the stump well. im not sure, if they still give you a tin of the special dusting powder in the freebie bag, or has that been banished like talc?

ive never used a baby bath. the kitchen sink works just as well. its a nice height for you to work at, no bending over (espec useful if you have CSec), and its obviously alot easier to empty than a baby bath, and also doesnt clutter up the house
