FedEx Question Regarding Duty

I ordered an item from a Japanese company, although the item was dispatched from Singapore.

My question is, I will probably have to pay duty, but how do I pay? It's coming via FedEx, do I pay the driver or will I have to travel to a depot to pay?

If the value is over 18 pounds you will have to pay VAT on the declared cost of the item plus the postage cost. There may be a duty charge which can be nothing or a few percent depending on the item. You will also have to pay Fedex's customs clearance fee of about 12-15 pounds.

You are very unlikely to have it slip through without charges when using Fedex. They often send an invoice a few days after delivering so don't assume there are no charges if you are not asked to pay before or on delivery.

You can't pay the driver, I second the previous answer, you'll receive an invoice to pay the tax.
