Hi All,
I have a question for you all to see if you can help me make sense of the benefits system to see what we are entitled to as a family.
I am a 26 year old man with a Partner of 27 years old.
We have a council property and currently rent this, we pay full council tax and also full rent.
Recently we have had a baby girl and as such my partner can no longer work and is recieving maternity pay or SMP @ £124.88 Per week.
We both worked I earned 25k and she earned 16k last year.
Because she has gone on SMP we are obviously alot worse of financially.
Is there any benefits or grants we are entitled to?
I am a complete novice to benefits and would appreciate any help you could give me.
I have done a series of online calculators and I think we are entitled to working tax credit and child tax credit aswell as child benefit.
This would make our income up to nearly the same but what happens when my partner comes off SMP?
Does she just go onto income support and will she still recieve working tax credit or child tax credit in addition?
thanks guys.

I'm no expert on tax credits, but it will continue when the SMP stops. You work so the WTC will continue, you have a child so the CTC will continue.
No IS due to your work0 -
The calculator shows that we will recieve £492 per month plus my partners SMP @ £124.88 a week which makes us entitled to £991
My Partner only used to clear £1080 so although we are slightly worse off its not the end of the world, do these figures sound right to you?0 -
Your income is too high for WTC. You will however, get some CTC.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

You will be entitled to child benefit and some child tax credits, but your income is too high for working tax credits (the cut off point is around £17-18,000).
Income support is only for a people who fulfill certain criteria, such as single parents with children up to the age of 5, carers, or a limited number of other circumstances. Your partner does not qualify from the information given.0 -

Umm no those figures don't sound right at all.
You are unlikely to get any WTC as your income is too high. You would get child tax credits and they are not that generous on your income.
And you would also get child benefit which is approx £20 a week.
What is the £492 a month comprise of?

One of the calculators shows what you would be entitled to for the whole remainder of the tax year rather than a monthly amount - this should show on the bottom - based on your income it would be £1095 for the full year so £91.25 per month so looks like £492 takes you to April

Remember to deduct up to £100 per week from SMP for tax credits purposes!
Although Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory
Paternity Pay (SPP) and Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP) are taxable, you
should take off up to £100 for each week of payment from your income
for tax credit purposes. (If you only received £80 SSP in any week, you
should only deduct £80 from your income.)

joint income of £25k with one child, you will get basic rate CTC of £545 a year (double til baby is 1).
so your figures are way off
she wont get IS as you earn enough to support you both
she also wont get JSA, as she has made herself intentionally unemployed, if she doesnt return to work at the end of her mat leave
you also wont be entitled to housing benefit, council tax help, or reduced rent
tbh, there is nothing available to you, other then CTC and CB
