Tax Overpayment

Hi guys, I don't know where exactly to post this, but I have had a letter through today from HMRC about tax overpayment and was wondering if I could have some advice. This is the letter I received
Now the amount of tax overpaid is £647 and it says repayment is due, and what I'm wondering is am I still actually going to be sent a payable order, because I had a period of unemployment???
I'm really baffled, does anyone have any advice?
Dear Miss Reece
I have reviewed your income tax liability for the year shown above to see whether you have underpaid or overpaid tax for that year.
My calculation is given on the enclosed sheet. The calculation result is given near the foot of that page.
The "See Notes" column refers to the numbered notes in the guidance leaflet "Understanding your Tax Calculation" which I also enclose.
A payable order for this amount has been issued to you separately.
You did not receive a repayment following your period of unemployment.

i imagine its to do with the recent controversy around the PAYE syte - do u have acompany car? My payroll guy old that was wht it was voer.
If they've issued it its likely u'll have to apy but martin did a weekly email a few weeks ago whcih had an article on appealing & getting it relooked at. If you do have to pay and can't afford to pay in one go you can call and set up a payment paln. Hth xDF as at 30/12/16

I've overpaid my tax by £647, not underpaid it ... I've posted it in the cutting tax section too as I wasn't 100% sure this was the right section0

My husband had a letter like this a month or so ago and the postal order followed a few days later - he had changed jobs but had a 3 week break between jobs so got his overpayment back after his previous employers had sent P45/46's into HMRC at the end of the financial year.0

ah my misunderstanding you'll get a cheque from IR. I over paid my nat ins for 3 years without realising when my company realised they sent all the paperwork in to IR and they processed it. It took a while for me to receive the full amount but if its IR that have wrote to you it'll probably be quickerDF as at 30/12/16

........... it's likely to be a short lived one if you don't resolve the issue regarding untaxed Carer's Allowance you mentioned in the duplicate thread?
Read the top para on the 'What Happens Next' enclosed with the P800. In particular the para starting 'We may need to amend the calculation ....' and then followed by Para 1 'If you have information which may affect your overpayment but you have not told us'.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I received one of these today (and wasn't at all expecting it) and thought I'd find some conclusion about it on here.
The enclosed "guidelines" aren't especially helpful, and just made it sound even more complicated. To make matters worse, the main letter was four pages long and out of sequence, which meant at first I thought I was looking at an underpayment of ~£2000 instead of an overpayment of ~£600.0 -
I had 1 of those letters 2 weeks ago. Two letters arrived in the same post. One saying that I would be getting a refund, the other letter enclosed a cheque for £2454 ! It's still sitting in my account . If they made a mistake once then they could make another one. I'm waiting for the letter asking for it back .old enough for my bones to feel the cold .0

i would imagine you would if the paper work says you are due one, you should receive a cheque in the post . but if in doubt check to see if the address and phone number on the letter are genuine. thats what i would advise anyway hope this helps0
