iphone 3 or 4?

Hi,
I think I'll upgrade to an iphone when my contract allows in Nov, I've heard about problems with the iphone 4, does anyone know if they're fixed now? I have always used a basic Nokia and have an ipod classic but would like to have just one device to carry aaround and like some of the apps eg ibooks, google maps, and being able to get email, tho as I get masses of junkmail I may need to set up a new address for it - or can I avoid it all going to the iphone?

Many thanks,
Caroline

  • 3 or 4 I would get a Desire , however if you have lots of Apple iTunes Store stuff , 4 is probably better (as long as you don't want a white one :D)

A phone of course ;) It's an HTC based on Android look here I have the later version of Android (Froyo) , but if it comes withe 2.1 then when you are set up it will update (especially if you send a snot-a-gram via the support link) mine took 45 minutes (to be sent)
Lots of apps on the Android Market Place some are good.
The site I have linked above has a lot of info on a lot of phones.

Edit: If you get it on contract then the update may be less easy to get hold of, mine is one off contract

I second the HTC Desire, The Apples Iphone 4 fix was to cover your phone in an ugly rubber case so that your conductive skin on your hand wouldn't connect the ariels and mess it up. A Desire has no such stupid issues, like you have to use iTunes, its upgradeable for memory and feels nicer with its matt back plate.

I was looking at an Iphone but settled on the Desire as it was much cheaper, easier to use (I found) and being android, theres a lot more phones that use that (therefore more possiblity of apps). Had it for a fair while and still think its amazing.

As said above, when you get the phone check for a software update (as with any other phone). Very easy to do.

Should go for an iPhone anyday. There are a lot more apps for an iPhone than there are for Android. I have a mate with an Android phone and he hates it. The network automatically sent an update to it not long ago and it killed it. He had to go back to the store and get it rolled back. Also he is very envious of the apps available on an iPhone and wishes that was what he had got. I myself went for an iPhone and its the best phone ive ever had.

I have an iPhone 4. If the problems you're referring to are with the arial then they are minimal. If I am in work and have my phone in my pocket for a few hours I get an error message saying that I have limited connectivity but after a few seconds the network connection is fine. If I completely cover up where the arial is on my iPhone 4 while I am on the phone it does start to lose connectivity but it doesn't put me off using the phone at all.

iPhone has the capacity to let you receive email from pretty much every type of account, there is even a Windows Live app for Hotmail now. I completely recommend it. I just don't recommend getting one on Vodafone due to bad customer service and they messed up my first few bills.

I loved my iPhone 3G that much I went out and spent £700 on a MacBook and it convinced me to stay with iPhone and get an iPhone 4, which I love.
  • If you have to choose between the IPhone 3 and 4 then I'd go for the IPhone 4 - the screen is so much better and it comes with more storage capacity.

I do think HTC's offerings are better in some ways though so the Desire is well worth considering - I especially think the HTC sense interface is miles better then the IPhone interface. The only thing that's better on the iphone is the games.
  • yeah bigger screen is the main advantage.
