Buildings insurance close to a small reservoir?

Hi all,

We're in the process of buying a house. It backs onto a small covered reservoir owned by the local water authority. It's doesn't come under the reservoirs act as it's only 8000 to 10000 cubic metres in capacity. I'm waiting on Ehome to come back to me to see if they would insure, in the meantime I wondered if anybody here had any expertise in this area that could advise on the likelihood that insurance could be difficult to acquire. Thanks in advance.

If you read reviews on the Ehome and Ecar brands you would be reluctant to arrange cover with them. They can be difficult to deal with from a customer services point of view and many people have had a lot of problems with them. Just search the forums and online review sites.

In regard to reservoir, it would depend on how near to your property it was. I doubt that there would be an issue, as the reservoir is under the control of a water company, so if anything went wrong, that caused water to enter your property, there would be come back against that company. It is very different to natural water hazards such as sea and water courses, where you wouldn't necessarily have any come back against the environment agency or other body.

You are probably best to deal with a decent local broker (not Swintons) who can review this with a number of companies and hopefully provide a number of competitive options.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
