hi
ive been using a usb dongle to connect to router wirelessly, on desktop pc, but now i want to using the ethernet cable connection.
Ive tried it, it doesnt work, the cable works, as i tried it on my laptop.
And the ethernet socket on pc, well it worked many months ago, when i used it to connect to internet at my parents house.
NOw it doesnt seem to be working.
How would i try to solve this? sounds like a network card within pc problem?
thankyou

It probably has the TCP/IP settings from the folks home, Check the settings to see if it is set up to use static IP. If it is switch it to DHCP mode.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I agree with the TCP/IP Settings. Check this within the control panel.0

i just double clicked "local area connection" and when the wire was plugged into pc, it lit up, and internet is working, and its a bit faster than the usb dongle too.
No need to tampler with tcp ip dhcp settings now?0 -

every since, when i shut down my pc, after shutting down, it immediately re-boots back up, have to shut down, then quickly pull the mains plug out. not sure if this router connection is causing this. will test it tonight. I did open up the pc to clean dust yesterday.0

Berger me just started my XP virtual box and alt F4 works from the desktop, I think the Alzheimers is catching up you have taught me something there
.
However does it still restart if you use the Start Button/Shutdown and select Shutdown. It may be a question of your machine is BSOD'ing on shutdown and is automatically restarting. You can check by going to control panel..system..advanced..Startup and recovery..settings and uncheck automatic restart.

dont really like to update things, usually causes problems with software, have to get updates for everything etc.
Alt f4 closes most windows/apps.
i dont like to use start button, i hate using mouse and keyboard (pain in arms from pc use).
automatic restart is unchecked already.
might need to clean install it. Ive never done that in years.
i cant even get in to task manager. some thing has disabled it (bug).
and opera doesnt work, firefox doesnt work.....only chrome works as its new download.
and my desktop has a massive exclamation mark in middle, cant seem to get rid of it.
active desktop recovery i think it says.0
