Does anyone have any experience of HMS Caledonia and what the area, MQ's etc are like? Any information would be greatly appreciated as we may be posted there soon!

Hi Chimaera

I was based at Caledonia for nearly 2 years till fairly recently, it really is a sleepy hollow of a base and i worked there as an instructor. It was almost like being a civvy for 2 years and was sorry to leave. A friend of mine stayed in the MQ's there and it was the old Officer's quarters and huge but i would say it was not in the best condition but it was a quiet little cul de sac. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. A little inside info is so helpful in trying to gain an insight into what will be a major move. Great to know there are MQ's as a lot of people had said they had all been sold off.
May I just ask what the area itself is like? It seems a great location with proximity to Edinburgh, plus countryside to the North.

Hi there was one street of MQs left when i was there but there is very few permanent staff based there who mainly live out. Dunfermline itself is nice enough and you are right its just over the bridge to Edinburgh, which is an outstanding place to spend time.

I was based on a refitting ship there and have to say that the only option is to live out!! The Accom is terrible even in the senior rates mess. Dunfermline is a nice quiet night out and as previously discussed Edinburgh is good too.

Never stops raining though........:D
