Yes. Mobile phones have tight bandwidth limits (the amount you can download view pages etc.) to stop doing this. If you are on contract, you will find the bills building up very very quickly.
Get a mobile dongle.0 -

For mobile broadband:
Go to Site Finder, click on the map and pop the postcode in the box.
A map should appear, hopefully with some blue triangles.
You'll need to click on each of the blue triangles in turn, reading the details.
What you are looking for are UMTS masts under 'type of transmission' within 500 metres of the place of abode and the name of the operator.0 -
Can you not get the landline reconnected?0

Thanks everyone, I shall investigate the dongle option I think.
No, I dont want to get the landline reconnected, I have a good deal on my mobile so will be using that for calls. Cant afford BT prices and hardly use landline anyway.
I can use the local library computers if necessary but would like to find a way of using my laptop in the house.Ellie

I've never tried it but my cheap PAYG phone appears to allow it to be used as a modem via either a USB cable connection or Bluetooth. I'm not that familiar with the different flavours of mobile broadband - HSPDA and all that stuff, but I think a dedicated dongle will offer faster speeds (unless your phone is particularly swanky) and the pricing will offer more data transfer for your money. If your phone isn't 3G you won't get very fast data transfer rates at all.0

It is possible to set a mobile phone to gain internet access but these days a Dongle is simpler all round (no need for special cables etc).
ASDA and Tesco sell no contract Pay-as-you-go dongles. £15-20 depending on network and download limit etc. Installing them is straightforward enough.
