New Home for bulldog??

We are considering re-homing one of our bull dogs but not sure where to start. Y'see we want to make sure she goes to a good home, where she will be the only dog and will not be used for breeding from.
She was used to breed too early from her previous owners (where we bought/rescued her from) but 3 dogs are too much for us now.
We suspect she was neglected/beaten where she was before, she is a lovely dog but craves attention.
I've googled 'bull dog rescue' but I'm not convinced that is the right path.
Can anyone offer me some advice??

Its great that you want to re-home the dog responsibly but can I ask why you took another dog on if its too much for you.?
Also its far easier to re-home females that are speyed?.
if she was used by previous owners for irresponsible breeding, surely speying was the route to go down.
That probably isnt much help, but you will be asked those questions by any responsible re-homing person, or new home.0 -
Oh, so sorry you feel you need to rehome a dog which already had a rough life from what you are saying....
What type of bulldog is she?
I so wish I was in a position to take her on as bulldogs are my second fav breed together with GS - but with Zara not accepting other dogs at home, there is no way...
Bulldog rescue, breed specific one wuld be the best way to go.
You say you do not want someone to use her for breeding - why isn't she spayed if you dont mind me asking?
EDIT - must have been typing together with Fantasia.. same point....0 -
Most breed specific rescues will provide back up that you simply can't provide if you rehome privately - they will arrange (or should arrange) a home check on the possible home, should the new owners no longer be able to keep the dog, they will foster and arrange a new home. They will have knowledge of any specific needs of the breed, as well as any health issues, and above all, they will have a strict no breeding policy which means any dog rehomed through them will NOT be used for breeding.
For me, it's a no brainer! Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
We bought a puppy from these people - looooong story - our daughter was attacked by a dog last year.
The physiologist she was seeing suggested a new puppy would help her with her fear she'd developed. We already had a bulldog and he is wonderful. Although after the attack i sent him to live with my sister. My daughter was desperate for him back, so he came back, gradually. We spent a long time discussing the puppy idea and did it in a way that our daughter was happy/comfortable with.
Fast forward..... The woman(owner/breeder) asked us to 'look after' the mum dog as she was being admitted to hospital for treatment and would struggle sorting her children and dog out. By this time we were settled with pup and our daughter was comfortable with the mum dog so we agreed. We took her to the vet for eye drops and were told of her history, not good! We got her back to health and then were given the option to return the dog to the owner or 'buy her cheap' Now, we are not rich, nor did we want a 3rd dog but we just could not send her back after what the vet had told us.
Up to date - So, now we have 3 grown bulldogs. She just needs extra TLC and we believe some undivided attention, that's why having to share our affections isn't doing her any good. She is so lovely but being totally unselfish, she deserves more.
(We haven't had her spayed, but suppose we could do if that was a major factor)0 -
Raksha, I looked at the 'Bulldog Rescue' website - I just have a niggly feeling about it?? I can't explain.
I was hoping someone might have some personal experience based advice

Does she have a problem with other dogs? Or is it that she is very demanding attention wise?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
No problems with other dogs, she just wants constant attention. She was neglected for so long and now she is looked after and healthy i suppose she doesn't want to let that go. She is very affectionate and loves to be cuddled x0

Why don't you want to use Bulldog rescue?? Along with other breed rescues it is probably your best bet. I do know that a couple of years back the waiting list was huge! Yes, all prospective homes are checked too(family member has carried out home checks in area where they live)One of their own dogs was rehomed through Bulldog Recsue and over a period of 25(ish) years the same family gave a loving home to three bullies(not at the same time, but as one pased away etc) Spaying is a good idea because technically anyone can say 'no-breeding', by spaying you can guarantee that it will not happen!
I have just taken a look at their rescue site-I guess things have changed re the waiting lists!!
I would of been half tempted myself if it wasn't for my current dog and his dislike of other dogs!
I will ask about(used to own/breed/show bullies many years ago)0 -
were are you? and would she live with a cat?bsc 347:j0
