How do I use my wireless laptop?

Hi

I bought an Acer Travelmate 2420 wireless laptop from Tescos a few months ago but have only used it at home on dial up. I plan to get broadband soon. However, what I would like to know is can I use my laptop in hotels on holiday, in coffee shops etc? And if so how? Do I need to buy any oher equipment?

    Hi,
If your laptop is wireless enabled, you will not need any extra equipment.
Some hotels have free wireless internet connection, some don't. Be assured, they will soon tell you how to connect if you ask them.
You can subscribe to companies like boingo (there are many) for paid access to the web at enabled sites. I'm afraid I've not used many, so I'm not in a position to recommend, but I'm sure there are folk here that can:)

http://www.totalhotspots.com/ is the sort of site that will show you 'hotspots' around the world, and how to get onto them.

Firstly you don't need additional equipment whilst you are out and about.
If you turn on the wireless adaptor when you are near a hotspot it should tell you that 'wireless network is avalable'. if you connect to this network and open Internet Explorer you will be diverted to the site of the hotspot provider.
They then give you the option of signing in (if you have prepaid) or paying for access.I haven't looked lately at the prices but it used to be quite costly.(£5/h).
When you look for a broadband provider try to find one that offers a free wireless router, then you can enjoy wireless access at home too.
